This is the one we have been waiting for a while now. They plan to have the normal awd rally cars there, but also the Dakar style rally bikes. If you haven't been to this rally before, I would definitely suggest it. Bring your Subies to drive the stages and work. I had a blast with my WRX here driving to my worker station. The action is pretty intense as the cars can reach 80mph in the sand. Its close to Florence, S.C., but well worth the drive. No experience necessary to work. This is the email sent by Anders Green, rally manager for this event. Hello! Sandblast Rally is coming up soon, it's only six weeks away! This year is shaping up to be even better than 2006: we've got more teams coming, and we have BIKES! Yes, bikes! Sandblast Rally will be the first ever RallyMoto(tm) event! We will run all the rally cars, then run the Combo Car (combination car fast sweep and bike car zero) then run the bikes. The bikes that are coming are Dakar-style bikes: long travel suspension, big, powerful... it should be awesome! All the EVOs, WRXs and so on will still be there, don't worry! It's also the debut of the Spec Rally Focus, which should be very close racing. As always, the event couldn't function without *you*, so I'm hoping you'll join me again in making this event happen. If you could let me know whether you'll be coming, that would be fantastic. You can also go even beyond and get the volunteer form in to me: http://sandblastrally.com/2007/worker-signup.php If you want to refresh your memory on some of the procedures, we have some short, one-page training manuals online: http://sandblastrally.com/2007/worker-training.php In the marshaling manual it also has a list of some things you might want to remember to bring. Thanks, hope to see you in February, and let me know if you're coming! Anders
wow that does look cool. I might try to get some friends together and see this, like milo, time permitting.
Its a really small town, but its fun when its lit up with rally cars. If you need hotel info. or additional info. of any kind let me know.
If you have ever wanted to safely rally your car, this is the place to do it. I've gotten the WRX up to about 50mph in the sand and it was fun!
If anyone is planning on working this, you need to get your registration in fairly soon. There will always be a need for workers, but it just helps organize it a little better and prevents cancellations like the Cherokee Rally last year.
Is anyone here, other than the guys that are in S.C, planning on going? I'm trying to figure out if I should volunteer to work this, or hang out (if someone else is going)? Also, clemsonscooby, are you planning on working or running in this event? **Edit, looks like this is about a 5 hour drive or around 300 miles for anyone interested**
Two people from CSCC boards and myself will be working the event. Feel free to use my house as a hub. We are planning on leaving friday afternoon so that we can be there before the workers meeting. My house is about 2 hours North of Atl. We can also car pool if needed and split gas costs. There is also reimbursements for lodging and gas. Make sure you download that from the sandblast website. I know we will be splitting hotels rooms, and we should be making those reservations sometime this week. If you plan on carpooling with us, on your worker registration write in our names that you want to be assigned with (Tom Caldwell and Seth Stelpton). That way they don't put you on a different stage than us with no ride. You can put down that you want to work marshall position or start/finish control, but you have to work with us if you are doing start/finish control. Marshalling requires no experience.
I know some have said they are seeing if they have enough money for this event, but the rally does provide lodging and gas assistance. If you have four people to your room, your room is basically covered provided everyone turns in the paperwork. Gas is also nearly covered since we all live in the highest gas return zones. I hope this persuades more to come out.
Got the "blessing" from the wife on this. Assuming I get the same from work then I'll be there for sure. **On a side note, I'll have that following Monday off as well for President's Day... Yay!! for me**
+1 for getting premission from the wife. Luckily, I didn't have to ask mine, she just assumed I was going. Good job wife!
i won't know for a while as i may have another trip that weekend. I want to go though. Is anyone else working this event?
From this board, just Ped and I. From Clemson Sports Car Club, there are two other guys. I am not sure if Ped was able to get anyone else though.
Excellent. Glad to hear more people are going. Make sure you get the lodging assistance in crashtke. Thats on a first come basis, but the gas assistance doesn't have to be returned until after the rally because you need gas receipts. I am in the process of making my own front aluminum skid plate. My splash guard is hanging down a little, because a cone tore it. I know the sand would rip it off.
If anyone else is thinking of going and doesn't want to drive their car, I'll have room in my car for a passenger. I got another room so there will be a spare bed open as well. Great to hear that crashtke and coolrex are going to make it. Looking through the old pictures, it looks like it'll be a good time.
I hope to make it but I may have to work at the drift event in Myrtle Beach. Our shop now has a dedicated drift car.
aww It ends up that I am visiting some folks out of town that weekend so i can't go....booo. Take lots of pictures so i get jealous and come next year, ok? Have a blast, those that are going
There are campsites in Cheraw. Its a national park. Just move your camping location, so you wake up to the sound of suspension churping and straight through exhausts.
I would but they already reserved the spot like a month in advance just make them change the date of the rally
looking forward to it myself. I've still got room available if anyone decides they want to go. Be heading up to meet clemsonscooby on Friday.
Yeah, we just have had some stuff come up that was unexpected, like my brother in law coming in town. It may be one of the last times we get to see him before he leaves to go back to Afganistan. He is a sgt. in the Army. We also have a friend who is opening a Quiznos that is hoping to have the grand opening that weekend. Nothing bad though.
