i had to go see a wrx out in kenessaw for a favor and the guy had sti bbs rims with some all season tires and a drop on a bugeye, and no other suspension mods as far as he knows... but the fact is, it felt CONSIDERABLY better than mine. I mean, would the 17" really make that big of a difference? he said H&R springs are what is on it, and unless his car has some sort of aftermarket dampers (could not tell from just looking; but it could be the koni insert or something) i can only assume the rate on the H&R is much stiffer than the prodrives because there was no bounce at all; it was the set-up that i wanted arghh. (his car has stock swaybars and not even the steering rack bushings) but it felt much more progressive.. my car feels like it's floating and despite having the swaybars at the stiffest set-up (at the front) it doesnt feel as accurate; i`m tired of my car bottoming out in middle of a turn and the bounce and jolt whenever there is a small crack or a surface change is really getting to me now. i think compared to what most people refer as being soft is perhaps just too soft for me (wish i knew before installing the prodrives) i rather have rock solid springs that wouldnt bounce and still work relatively well with the stock struts (but i want to keep the ride height!!! except i hate the raked look that i have right now...i think i want something that will give me an even drop...i also dont want to go lower than what it is though; that would be a nightmare) i searched nasioc for the H&R but couldnt find anything useful :squint: there wasnt any big difference bet 02 and 03 bugeyes as far as suspension goes right? whoever knows more about H&R springs, please let me know... end rant. thank you guys :sx:
Weren't your struts blown a couple months back? H&R really is not all that "big" in the Subaru suspension thinking, in my opinion. Your prodrive springs are good springs, accept it Your shocks sound like they're dead, replace them. If you are hell bent that they are not, do yourself a favor and disassemble them to inspect your bump stops. If this still appears "normal", check all associated bushings for age related damaged and replace as necessary. If this still is not solving the problem throw said OEM struts in garbage can and buy coil overs or some other form of complete strut replacement.
arghhh could it be my struts? i do have 120k miles on her, but honestly i dont think it's the struts... it was perfectly fine when i had the stock springs on and i dont hear/feel any difference.
If you have 120K on the struts and you have springs other than stock....I'd bet it's the struts are blown. Stock WRX struts rarely last 20K miles with lowering springs.
I agree with Alex and CoolRex. I had the prodrives on my car for over 3 years and never had any bounce. The Prodrives felt almost like stock, with a nice drop and a slightly stiffer feel. If you are getting bounce with your setup, check you struts and bump stops like Alex said. There is something wrong with you setup, and it is not the springs.
Blown struts or under-damped struts can cause bounciness. Crappy or overinflated tires can do the same. Even though the prodrives don't give a huge increase in spring rate, the stock struts may not have been enough damping from day one, and the extra load from stiffer springs will cause them to wear even faster.
Strut.... You know you can go to each corner of the car and bounce each corner. If it bounces more than 1 you can tell which struts are dead or going out.
Hmm the only thing I can think is your struts might be blown. Not sure but something is telling me its the struts... :|

Well like everyone else said, it's probably your struts. Since your car had been on stock springs for awhile before the prodrives, the struts would have "gotten used to" or "settled in" to the load and ride height that the springs provided. When you switch to a new spring with different rates and height, the shocks aren't going to hang on very long. Or at least that's what GTE told me
You need new struts my frined...... I have a set at my house with like 40K on them I will let them go cheap..... Let me know.
You need new struts my frined...... I have a set at my house with like 40K on them I will let them go cheap..... Let me know. Duplicate post.... My bad!
i have seen my car bounce more than once...... NOOOO i guess it`s time to save up for a set of nice struts lol along with my problems in vaccume leak and fuel line, and new rotors + pads... the money pit never seems to have enough of me college student...
how much difference will there be between: 1. sti struts + rce blacks vs 2. tokico-d's + rce yellow or black? as much as i want the d-spec, i just dont have the money as i have other things i have to get fixed. would sti struts + rce blacks be a nice combo for daily driving and some auto-x? if the d-spec is really that good i may pony up, but i dont track race so i dont think the adjustability is a neccessity for me (although it would be fun)
i guess i might as well get what i want the first time around rather than making a mistake again and having to do everything all over...
I'm running Koni inserts with Swift Spec-R springs and am really happy with them. Koni's are probably out of your budget if the Tokico's are a bit higher than you were looking at spending, but I live in Suwanee and wouldn't mind giving you a ride along. Also, you could sell your blown struts to someone looking to do Koni inserts but doesn't have stock struts to hack or needs an extra set.
From what I recall only 2004 STI struts will fit 5x100. 2005 and up have different struts due to the different hub design for 5x114. KYB AGX are decent struts and they are adjustable, but best of all is they are really cheap. As for new pads you can get some stupid cheap here. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1622602
arghh i`m thinking maybe i should do 04 sti struts + rce blacks for the price and then get the tokicos to pair up with the blacks once i have saved enough but i think 04 sti struts by now will be at high mileage anyways so i dunno what to do... either way i`ll be on my stockers for a while because i`m barely making payment for my car anyways haha (but so many things to fix)...
Save your money for the tokicos or something better. Old, used 04 sti struts might already be on their way out, and you'll end up having bought two sets of struts and doing two installs instead of one: that is not saving you any money.
I disagree from experience.....had two blow out on me within 5K miles. I then got the coilovers which I hated and now have the Tokicos with 10K+ miles on them and I won't think twice about buying them again.
