I have zero cel codes on my 02 WRX and have driven the car over 200 miles and failed the readiness test. Does anyone have any experience with this problem occurring any advice? Does anyone know if the readiness, drive cycle, can be manipulated using an open source ecu tuning software? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I do know it's not always 200 miles. I had the same issue one time...drove another 60 or so and then did the test and passed.
It took my car 400 miles to pass readiness. Are you sure that the previous owner did not install any sort of MIL eliminator?
Was it 200 miles in one day or over a few days? Most cars take x miles over x days.x=unknown.Not sure bout subarus but I have seen Toyotas take a person up to 2 weeks to complete all readiness monitors.I think it varies by which monitor you are talking about.
Liquid Give me call. I do not know where you live in your neighborhood. I have no idea which readiness monitor failed. Can the emissions place see which one failed or just that it failed? Does anyone know where I can get the readiness monitors checked besides the dealer?
Basically where all the sensors and monitors in the ECU have sufficiently passed all parameters in the ECU and state that all tables are stable and functioning properly.
I now have over 400 miles on the car and went to the emissions place again today and it is still failing because of the readiness monitors. I have a friend that works at classic cadillac/subaru and I am going up there tomorrow to find out what exact monitor, or monitors, are failing to cycle. This will not fix what is going on but at least I will know what is going on. Does anybody have any opinions on open source ecu programs. What have you used, like about it, blah blah blah. I am almost to the point of being desperate to find out what is going on. My tag is now expired by four months. I really do not want to take it back to where I have gotten my work done on the car(no more money). So hopefully I will know more tomorrow and will update again. Thanks for the input and concern so far guys. I could use all I can stand.
With the new version of rom raider the ability to force readiness monitors exist. Also if the spark plug anti fowlers are used to prevent the rear 02 cel they can sometimes prevent it from ever getting to the ready status. That is my guess as to what is causing your problem. Swing by tommorow. I'll be installing a transmission starting at 9:00 am. I pm'd my address.
Thanks Mike see you around 9:00. Do you need help with the transmission? I could help you with it and knock it out faster.
Passed Finally passed emissions and got my tag. That is a huge relief. Thanks to liquidforce for helping me out, without his help I would not have passed. Hit me up if you ever need help. Thanks to everyone that responded.
Good to know. I'll be using that utility 15 mins before emissions next november. Swap ECUs, flash romraider, drive 2 blocks to the emissions place, pass, swap back. :wiggle:
I just unplugged my battery and pumped the brakes in the parking lot before I pulled in to get emissions. It worked beautifully.
I do not know exactly how it happened but these are the events that took place and what the car is doing, or not doing. I left school to get some food, I ate and returned to my car. Got in my car, the car started and drove about thirty feet before cutting off and not cranking again. The fuel pump does not pump fuel, the spark plugs fire just once and do not fire again until you turn the key off and try cranking again. The car wants to turn over but can't. Its back where it has been so many times before and that is what they think also.
Have them swap the ecu out with a known working one before you buy a another one. I'm guessing its a wiring issue like last time and not the ecu.
i have the readiness problem too with my ECU for emissions. I read through this thread but im just trying to clarify how you took care of the readiness problem....Did you use the Rom raider or was it the rear 02 sensor?? I failed my emissions one time so far...and ive driven the car around for about a week so far. i have to go in again this Saturday and im hoping i pass this time...
Romraider took care of the readiness problem. They do not have another ecu to swap into it. I am considering buying my old ecu from techlord and taking it to topspeed and have them go through the car and tune it. What do you think liquidforce?
Might not be a bad idea. They should already have a good map for it since they have tuned the car before. Might only have to spend another hour to get it right. edit: If you get your old ecu back it will have the latest tune from Topspeed on it. All you need to do is get it running again and get the meth hooked up and you'll be pushing close to 500whp.
I really do no want to name names because they are good people. I am just having a really hard time with my car and need someone who has more expertise dealing with WRX's and STI's.
Hey i had another question regarding the readiness problem. I had to order a new AP but still have pass emissions. if i change the ap i have now with the new one and have to put everything back to stock and then reflash back to stage 2...am i going to have to wait a couple of weeks again before the ECU is "ready" again?...or does that happen only the first time it is flashed???
Every time you pull the battery cable off, or the ecu is reset, the readiness monitors need to run through the cycles again. My car was tuned with the accessport and then romraider was used to turn off the readiness monitors.
I gotcha. Yea i mean ive driving it for about a week and half now after failing my emissions bc of readiness...so hopefully thatll be enough time for it to be ready when i go back sometime this weekend.
So i just got back from emissions...and everything passed. No readiness problem or anything, after about a week of driving. prob racked up about 200 miles....happy thats over with!
It feels good doesn't it. Congrats man, glad it went well for you. I know how aggravating it can be to not pass over and over again.
I borrowed my old ecu from techlord to see if that would fix the car. Sorry to say that did not fix the problem. A thanks goes to techlord for helping me. Now I have no idea what is going on with the car. Could it be another random wiring harness? I have no check engine lights. Usually there is a CEL light when you get a electrical problem. A ground maybe? It is strange that the car tries to turn over but no start and no CEL. This is getting frustrating.unamused
It feels real good thats over and i can still keep driving my car! lol So how did you fry ur ECU again???
It's not the ecu anymore. That has been eliminated thanks to techlord. There are a few new updates though. Since it was not the ecu and the fuel pump is not pumping the circuit was back probed to the relay(it was good)and then the main fuse, but the fuse looks good. Low and behold once the fuse was pulled out and the clear top was removed and prodded it fell apart. Okay that's fine I feel like a dumb ass because it was a fuse, but okay no big deal just replace and drive; another ten feet and the fuse blows again. Short in the circuit somewhere that is causing it to ground out and blow the fuse, that appeared out of nowhere and causing all sorts of hassle. Since I have had a few electrical problems due to the wiring maybe I should just buy a complete engine and body harness from subaru and spend about twenty hours replacing the whole thing. I am soooo frustrated but it's okay. If this is the worst thing that happens to me this week I am still very fortunate.
Check this out. The rear O2 sensor was rubbing against the underbody of the car rubbing the undercoating off and the shielding of the wires on one of the harnesses. Guess what happened next.
ME TOO, Chad has definitely gotten the shaft. May have to start a thread to see who has had the worst misfortunes after purchasing their car.
Integroid is correct. I hope this is it. I really love my car but this is ridiculous. Opinions please. New rear O2 from subaru or cheaper bosch? Does it matter? Do I even need the rear O2? Can I eliminate it?
Thanks Kingwrex and Integroid for the info. The shop is ordering me a new O2 from Subaru. I like the OEM more anyway. Hopefully this is the last time I have to post a failure of the car again. Now I to save up money for parts to make it better no just to fix it. I guess next thing is a tune, with the meth, from Topspeed and hope for decent numbers.
Anyone have a front O2 for my wrx. Got the car half way home and got a cel code p0170 lean condition bank 1. I figure I should replace the front O2. Car is spittin and sputtering and will barely go from a stop. Offtopic but I am in Seattle Washington right now and there are crazy amounts of subarus wherever I go. I have seen old Brats and 2.5RS's and all different subarus that I never see in GA. Crazyness.
call me Chad I think I have a spare...cracked turbo was my problem. I just pray no more melting wires are the cause.
