Ok so since I put on my gutted UP and TXS SB I went ahead a loaded a stage 2 map. I have been taking it easy and did some 3rd gear pulls last weke and this morning to check and make sure that all was well. So last week when I did the pulls my Advance Multiplier was 16. Today after the pull I looked at the logs and it was 13. I thought once it reach 16 it was supposed to stay there. Why would it drop? Andy
nope..it doesnt always stay at 16. Depends on a lot of things. I have found that it usually dropped when I got a tank of bad gas.
Post 'em up here so everybody can pitch in. Not sure what I'll be able to tell you without having your map though...
reload the same map and check if it 16 while driving around and then do a part throttle log and see if it drops i think its a combo of fuel and timing because it stayed at 13 and ddint continue to drop
Gas is the only thing that changed from the last time I logged it last Thursday. I filled up at a station that I don't usually use. I will get some octane booster on the way home and then check again on the way to work tomorrow again. Thanks for the replies.
On my WRX, I noticed that if it settled at a number that wasn't 8 or 12, it would take forever for it to come back up to 16. I would reset the ECU, bring the AM back up to 16 and see if it stays there. I don't remember the reason, but I did read somewhere that you should make sure your car is nicely warmed up before you reset it and try to bring the AM back up.
Ok so I put in some STP octane booster last night one the way home with 3/4 tank. This AM I reflashed with the same map to get the AM back up to 16. I drove to get some breakfast and at low rpm on surface streets with calm driving I got a -5 on the knock correction pulling away form a stop light. I am ready to go back to the Stage 1 map until I can learn some more or get a tank of gas that I can trust. The attached file is tab delimited.
Update. I worked late last night and on the way home I took the interstate to get a 3rd gear pull to log. Well the AM was stoll at 16 after the octane booster form the day before and stayed 16 through the pulll and on the way home while taking it easy. Now this morning I hook up the laptop and the AM is at 15. :crying: I think I just need to get a good tank of gas and then start logging again to make sure everything is kosher. Sigh...
I spent some time a few weeks ago fiddling with a stage 1 map. It looked like a couple of isolated and minor problem areas pushed me from 16 to 12. Since then, I've reloaded with Cobb's stage 1 map. I'm about to change up and down pipes, so I've lost interest in fiddling the stage 1. I'll take a look to see if the Cobb map, which I've been running for several weeks now, is still at 16.
Well I reflashed to my stage 1 map that I was using before coming home from work and did a 3rd gear pull. I will check the logs out in the AM. I am not using Cobb so I am limited in my maps to the openecu stuff.
I'll be curious to see how your stage 1 map works out. I'm suspecting that your stage 2 map is a little too aggressive in some area.
You might do well to start with this map and add adjustments that move you closer to the stage 2 map. As I said earlier, I'm about to change up and down pipes. I can't decide whether to start from stage 1 or stage 2 maps to tune for the new plumbing. It has become apparent to me that everything is connected. If your boost targets are less aggressive than your timing, for example, you might knock. Push more air (and thus more fuel) into the cylinder and the knock might go away. Take this as an illustration of concept; I'm still a rank beginner at this. Cobb has a step-by-step paper on tuning that suggests an order in which to touch things. Have you seen it, or something similar?
I have that. I will print it and read. I looked at it earlier and it looked to be a good starting point to leard the basics.
