Rear Diff Leak

So I just bought a R180 to swap out in the rear and do a full 5x114 setup on the Subaru. I have the whole rear subframe and diff sitting in my garage. I looked at it last night in the dark, but I could defiantly tell that it was leaking...from where I have no idea. The whole diff just seems to be all black and gunked up. So my question is...what should I replace on the diff while I still have it out? Axle seals? Diff plate? What are the common parts that leak on the diff? Also has anyone done rear subframe bushings? Should I even spend money on that? Maybe I can snap some pictures later today.

 

Make sure the vent holes isn't plugged up. Many times if it gets plugged up it'll bust the seals somewhere and seep.

I would change the gaskets and the axles seals and of course a fluid purge/refill.

 

if the axles are out or been out then it will spill diff fluid

 

The Axles have been attached. They just dropped the whole rear subframe so everything is still attached. I just see gunk everywhere.

 

main places that leak are usually, vent tube like $5. if it's plugged i've seen them leak out of the pinion seal and the axle seals. You really wont be able to tell what is really leaking till new fluid is in it and you've spun on it awhile. Would deff change the vent on it though. a lot easier to do when out of the car.

 

I like my bushings.

I've jacked the rear of mine on the diff and see little to no movement compared to my friends stock bushing subframe. A full jack pump just compresses the diff until the bushings are at the top of the subframe, then the car goes up.

looks like #16, #4, #8 would be a healthy choice for sure and I think it's #29 might be the other seal. looks like the closest seal to where the drive shaft goes.

 

Most everything on mine is TiC or whiteline.

I might have a friend with an extra set here, he order 2 of the same thinking they were for different parts.

One set was whiteline the other might have been kartboy.

 

#16,#4,#8. The driveshaft pinion seal is another but usually shouldn't have to worry about it.

 

Yea I just ordered the TiC one. Should have save me time and shipping and just get it from your friend haha.

Yea I'm going to clean up the diff this week and stop by Subaru to pick up some parts and swap it out this week. Figure I might as well do all the maintenance while I can. Debating if I want to redo the seals on the rear brembos as well.
