I just got Redline Synthetic Gear oil put in the transmission and rear differential. Id say its a pretty good investment. I was at 51,000 miles and i figured it was about time to get the fluids changed out. The oil that came out wasnt in too bad of condition (i'm not too hard on the powertrain). But there was a tiny bit of crap on the magnetic tranny drain plug (probably from the occasional missed gear, not really a bad thing tho).

I would recommend this to anyone who is due to get their gear oil changed.

How is putting Reverse gear?? I changed my transmission fluid with Castrol 75w-85 (the same as OEM i think) dino oil. Sometimes it's little harder to put in reverse compare to OEM.

i switched to mobil 1 full sythetic a while back..makes a pretty good difference in shifting into all gears..first is still a pita if you are not going under 8mph

I switched to Redline 75w90ns about 5k miles ago. Shifting is noticeably smoother, but first gear will sometimes grind when I try to engage the gear from a full stop.

Yeah, it's still pissing me off. I'm going to change my tranny oil again with redline the next time I change my motor oil. Maybe the little bit of old dino oil that was left behind during my last change is causing the grinding. I'll post an update.

dude, how do you guys shift?...i can put mine in first gear from anywhere under 25mph. shift slow and smooth, otherwise you'll have syncromesh problems. i run redline gear oil as well. and i have 100k miles on my 02 wrx. (probably cuz it's white!)

I haven't changed out my fluid and I always have trouble getting it into first unless I'm close to stopped. Sometimes I can't even get it in first from a complete stop (and yes, I am pushing in the clutch all the way) but it only happens very rarely. I'm planning on taking it to Subaru to have the transmission looked at anyways since the car is under warranty.

Ive found i can get it into 1st at or under about 15mph now if i just slowly push the shifter into first. But i still every once in a while get a little grindage!

I can get into first at around 25 or so. Just double clutch it on the downshift and no problem for me. Hope it stays this way and I didn't jinx myself by saying this. :eek:hnoes:

yea i usually have to double clutch on uphills(which there are an ass ton of where i drive near tech) to get into first while slowing. Otherwise, it's always a little tough unless under 10-15 mph.

I bought 5 quarts, the rear diff took slightly over 1 guart, and the tranny took the rest. I believe the spec is somewhere between 3.5 and 4 qts. Im not sure, just fill and keep checking the dipstick.

Also im not too sure what weight the oil needs to be, check the owners manual.
