You did it without me, you #*%^&! I dont think anyone on here has even made a stab at it. I'll be happy to give you a hand if you're interested in trying though.
I think I am just gonna wait it out... maybe get the replacement pieces when I have some extra dough... you know, really, until i knew that the s203 trim was black... I kinda liked mine
^^Did you sand the top piece of the console around the shift boot and paint it as well? Or is that just the photo?
I thought about doing mine, but I've decided I like the way it is now. Seems like it (the paint) would scrape off pretty easily and look nasty.
Don't waste your money on the JDM flat balck panels. I can knock them out in hours.... Changing the trim to black is one of the easiest things you can do.
ok so after reading this thread and searching for pictures online, I've decided to do mine. I don't really like the look but I'm gonna give it a try. I'm worried because I have mattJK's screen in my dash so if I don't like the black... well... too bad lol Alex, I'm again practicing on mine so we can do yours. Don't get mad 'cuz I did mine without you lol Edit: So I painted one of the AC vent to see if I like it and to test out the paint I bought... First of all, don't try to pop off the cap without using a screw driver because this will happen. I spent 10 minutes cleaning my hand lol So I painted one of the AC vent... I liked the paint and the color so I painted the cup holder... I was going to sand it down with really fine sand paper and primer it before painting it 'cuz I was worried about paint chipping off but I just went straight to paint lol The AC vent is almost dried and I tried scratching it with my nail and we're good! :wiggle: I will probably start another thread once I'm done with it.
I used a semi flat texture on mine to get an OEM look, as I did not want the flat black look. To get good results with painting interior plastic, you want to scuff the plastic with mild scotch bright and then use an adhesion promoter before laying down primer, then paint. Thanks, if you use a "dry spray" method, you can create that "OEM texture". I installed the Alpine W200 and did not want the silver trim with a black screen. I am really trying to get all this audio installed before the end of July.
So I finished painting the rest of the pieces and don't like the look haha. I had to strip the paint down twice on the top air vent pieces.. it seemed as the spray can was getting low, it wasn't spraying enough of the clear/shine and creating that flat black look which I did not want. So after buying a new can, it came out alot better and matched other pieces but it seems to be bit too shiny and it's too black for my taste... I'm gonna strip down the paint again tomorrow and try to use the same paint that Chris (Ayrton) used. Thanks for the info by the way. I will update the pix of before/after and another one with new paint lol
Chris, you coming to the install day on the 8th? I would love do my dash the same way that yours came out!
I work Saturdays and will not be able to attend. However, if you want to swing by the house on Sunday, I can knock it out for you.
