Scary hood release at high speed

On the way to Mardi Gras, I noticed a very strange and scary phenomenon – when approaching triple-digit speeds, my hood pops, as if I've pulled the hood release lever. It's still secure, but scary as Hell.

Anybody got any ideas as to why this may happen, and more important, how to make it stop happening? And don't tell me not to drive that fast. I know.

Nope, it was totally closed. Slammed shut after the first time it happened. Didn't solve anything.

Maybe you need a giant mercedes emblem on the hood?

Suggestions on how to do that?

There were a ton in Alabama, but mostly just yesterday. Where I was doing this was a very wide open and empty area, with lots of clear visibility. I wouldn't be doing that speed otherwise.

Obviously take it to someone that knows how to do it since you do not know:)

    Good point.

Anybody have any idea why this would only happen at high speed?

I told him long before we got there that I didn't want that car bomb. He didn't have to order it.

FYI, not drinking for Lent. That means that Justin should continue not buying me drinks.

It has nothing to do with me emulating Christ, and I much more about laying off after Mardi Gras. It's a test of willpower.

Back on point, anyone have any ideas why speed would be causing this problem? Or suggestions on which way (I can figure out the how) I should adjust my latch.

nicad Yes I am a troll

spend about 5 seconds looking at the latch and you can probably figure it out

Exactly...if the latch is not adjusted correctly, and the rubber adjusters on the side as well, then it will have play.

Air gets trapped under the hood and pushes the hood up..
    Use duct tape.

ahhaha duct tape... this has happend to me but i was approching 80 miles per hour only, not tripple digits, but then i was like oh oo... then boom hood slamed into my windshild, and i was driving huntched over to see where i was then pulled over.. man scarriness.... i would say time for hoodpins also...

Duct tape, hood pins, not helping.

Me and some other guys put our heads together and came up with putting washers on the hood latch to force it closed a little more. Seems to be working, but if anybody has any other helpful suggestions I'm open to hearing them, since this thread is back from the dead and all.

Does the hood move when it is closed? Possibly your bump stops?

Come to Allpro, we have a latch off an 06.

It doesn't move, and it doesn't do anything when I try and pull it open when it's fully latched. Actually that picks up the front of the car a bit. Can I have you guys look at it at the install day, maybe? It hasn't popped up since I tried the washer thing, but I haven't spent much time near triple digit speeds, either. It does wobble at speed, but aluminum + hood scoop + bumpy highway might explain that.

Hmm. That'd be worth looking into.
