Atlanta Region SCCA is hosting two events the weekend of March 18th. March 18th - Test n Tune @ Gwinnett Co. Pre-pay and Pre-registration are required! Register at www.soloatlanta.com. THIS EVENT IS LIMITED TO 50 CARS! March 19th - SCCA Points Event #1 @ Gwinnett Co. Fairgrounds Pre-registration is required at www.soloatlanta.com Cost is $35 for non-member and $25 for members. Roll Call: Mere(me) BrianGT Alex Wayne (1984) Black and Blue Superdude Patrick (gotsol) Will Jason (WRXFan240)?
My brother (vette) and my friend (evo ix rs) will be attending. I really want to but I am simply too poooooor at the moment. :squint:
I just might have to go to that... Why is it more on the test day than the actual event? I would prob rather just go play around and see what happens since i've never auto-x'd before...
The test n tune day is alot more runs then you get in an actually points event, hence more money. Either day most people will give you rides their cars so you can an idea of autoxing is like.
I will definitely be at the points event Sunday, as if you didn't already know that. Looking forward to kicking off the Auto X Season.
cool, thanks. i hope you keep us greenhorns up to date with your sig, meredith. very helpful, to me anyway i'll see ya there on the 19th. with my fly newly painted wheels and number plate. i'm running in the A.M., anyone else coming to the morning run on sunday?
Well, if I can source another set of rims and tires by then I may be in. I'm not so sure I want to tear up my brand new tires just yet
I'll donate my three remaining victoracers to your car alex . That would take you out of STU though. I figured I can be ultra-come-autoxing-annoyning with my sig . If you are running DS I should be there with you in the morning, I believe all stock classes are in the same run group.
Id like to go and check it out. Ive never been to an AutoX event. The way everyone talks it sounds fun.
It is! If you don't feel comfortable driving I do suggest taking some "fun runs" with other people. Let's just say it's so fun I've spent god knows how much money on tires
We got back entirely too late from getting Alexs legacy from tenn. to be getting up so early to run. Ill be getting some much needed sleep. Next event though, Ill be there!
LAME!!! It was a fun day!! Hey Mere, can I get a co-drive at one event? I'd like to check out the tires and FSB. It'll be a long while before I get back out there tho with Chloe on the way. Good seeing all you guys out there (the ones that actually showed up)
I was there. It was pretty cool to check it out.I saw WJM's wagon and M-chan's sti (recognized he pink rims)
Sorry I missed you! Next time I'll try to catch you (you have the dark blue 2.5 right?) I do believe it was a great weekend for subaru/wrxs for those who showed up cough cough. I believe STX was a Subaru sweep (Will, Patrick and Wayne? preliminary results are not up yet.) I'm sure Trey did awesome in STU and I did pretty decent in AS (second place). Randy was out there in the morning with is Scion friend (i'm horrible with names). Trey just send me a pm when you want to co-drive, I got the v710s and RA-1s now. I was pretty happy with the RA-1s today in the cold drizzle that my group ran in.
I had great fun as usual. I wish we had four runs though . I spun on my first run right after I entered the first slalom because of how different my car handles after installing a FSB. I've got front end grip now! Oh, and thank you Scott for getting my WRXatl number plates to me before my runs. You did an awsome job on them!
The event was run pretty smoothly, my only complaint is that if you have work third session (first session of the afternoon heat) you not only have work through the whole group (ie red, green, blue or yellow), but pro class AND junior karts. The final session had about 2/3s the cars of the third session. I hope Team Solo works this out, it's not fun to have to work with such a large group.

Almost a scooby sweep in STX. Ok so I was told wrong, apparently I win AS, thank you mother nature!
I don't see her listed in the results, she looked really fast, but I can't seemed to find her. The preliminary results list this person as 2nd place STX: 2T 78 Ryan Heming 2005 MINI Cooper S Electric Blue 51.581
Yeah I talked to them for a little bit. They were pretty cool. One lives in Virginia and the other goes to school at GT.
Thanks, but i do believe alot of the regular A Stock people were missing today. Matt G kick my ASs regardless
Thats odd....she was running right behind me. We swapped times the last 2 runs. me 50.5xx...her 50.3xxx...then me 50.212....? odd. Edit: I dont remember seeing her Pre-Reg'd either...so...maybe thats the issue. *shrug* So that means w/out her there...I took STX overall by 1.3 seconds....in an OUTBACK wagon with a 4spd auto trans! :keke:
Yeah I think Karen was driving her car in pro class earlier, Karen looked awesome as well. I guess it was technically a scooby sweep in STX then. You looked awesome out there today, mad props to anybody that can autox an outback wagon. It's the driver that makes the car right
Meredith, I told you that you were first but you didn't belive me . Oh, WJM, thanks for embarrasing me in the Outback. I appreciate being made feel inadequate . I'm not worthy!
how did you get the resaults? i looked at the site, but i can't seem to find them. man, you guys make me look SLOW!!!! holy crap! i thought i did fairly well, but damn. next time i'm running DS, so i hope can represent. AND i get to use my WRXatl magnet. that should give me a second advantage right out of the gate. so the FSB is a big deal? i can't believe just how much push my car exibits. What one did you go with? is the install a big deal? i need to do this soon i think. just looking for some feedback.
I went with the Cusco 22mm FSB with Whiteline HD endlinks. I didn't want to go super big on the sway bar because I didn't want to restrict the independent movement of my suspension too much on my daily driver. I'm also running 280lb springs and camber plates up front so lack of negative camber isn't as big of an issue as it would be if I was in DS.
Randy, I've got 26mm all around. I had a 22mm up front in D-Stock and it helps maintain the camber when you dive into a corner. Nothing is going to total cure the WRX understeer unless you are ready to drop some$ on a real suspension. Mer, nice driving! Fast Girls rule!!! Will, you've humbled me! Wayne, you are goign to give me a real run this year.
Man, I wish I could have made it to this event. Hopefully will be ready for the next one. Will know more tomorrow.
in case i didn't stress it enough, i really appreciate your input, Patrick. Thanks!!! but really, how do i see the results? i want to see how Richard, the tC guy did. and who the hell beat me in novice, damn-it.:eek3:
Randy, go to soloatlanta.com and click on forums, then on announcements, there should be a thread with both PRE-preliminary and Preliminary results posted. I guess they finally found the mystery 2.5 RS in STX, she's listed with the number two time in STX for the event. I'm running el giagantor bar in my car, the Stranos 32 mm diameter FSB. My car pushed like crazy with the stock sway bar. I was constantly behind on slaloms (Fast hands right patrick ), I just a hard time rotating the car. I tried the 25 mm diameter whiteline bar, but my turn in still felt slow. I have only had three events sofar using the stranos bar, but I can feel a difference. While I'm sure alot of my issues with slaloms can be attributed to my driving level, I definately feel like I have an easier time "keeping up" and the car feels alot more stable as well. I actually like the feel of my car in the slalom over brians evo.
is the larger SB still fine for the daily driver. i'm no Princess and the Pea, but, when you read up on FSB everyone brings up ride quality. is it that big of an issue? oh, and thanks for pointing us to the forum page. i hadn't looked there.
do you read the autocross column in SubieSport? they are pretty good if I do say so myself ;-) Swaybar has NO effect on ride quality
Actually there is an effective spring rate that is associated with the swaybar. Adding a bigger swaybar increases that rate. The other big daily-driver issue can be noise from the mounts and endlinks. That being said, increasing the size of the swaybar is rarely a big enough change to notice on a daily driver. It is probably the least intrusive way to add roll stiffness to the car.
