Lots of great stuff going on this weekend at Turner Field with the SCCA...

For those looking to get started in autocrossing who have no prior experience or maybe only 1-2 events, there's the Tire Rack SCCA Starting Line: http://www.motorsportreg.com/index....B0035-C04B-0463-1F931A9389C3B998#.UUnd6Vt36jo

You get all sorts of great stuff like a new helmet, a driver school, a free local event, a free National event, an SCCA subscription (discounts on region events), a free Grassroots Motorsports subscription and some other swag.

For those who have been driving for a few events or maybe a few seasons, the Phase 1 school is the next step in developing the tools to become a more consistant driver. You learn techniques both inside (mechanics of choosing lines, looking ahead, etc) and outside the car (walking course, mental game). Both this and the Starting Line school will be taught be some of the most experienced autocrossers in the South East: http://www.evoschool.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=404

Lastly, Sunday we'll be running Points Event 2 so you can take advantage all that schooling you got on Saturday! Here's the registration for that: http://www.motorsportreg.com/index....E270C-D10C-5C58-165542287049B091#.UUEk5hy97jY

Thanks and hopefully we'll see you guys out there this weekend!

I'll be there for starting line, and the race on Sunday. May need to get a rain suite for Sunday though. LOL

Yeah, we run as long as there's no lightening close by or tornados. So bring lots of things to help you stay dry. Bring a tarp to cover all the shit that you take out of your car. Or, unpack your cars tonight and there'll that much less to get wet. A lot of us bring pop-up canopy tents, so if you have one, bring it. And, don't forget to leave your driving shoes in the car and wear a second pair you can get wet walking the course.

    I think that's all I got ;)

We'll be the faster cars out there on Sunday if it does rain, and that always makes it more fun. Good to see so many WRX/STi's out racing!

Even with the poor weather all weekend, I had a fantastic time at my first autocross. I really need a lot more seat time, and figure out which class I should start in to work towards being more competitive. I'm in a stock 2011 Evo MR, but I don't think I want to get racing slicks or track only tires for now. Any input would be great. I was thinking either B stock or STU, although I didn't see STU listed on the SCCA atlanta website. Thanks!

STU is out there, but I guess they all didn't make it to the event. I know James was out of town, he's STU.

ST classes are a great mix of actually improving the car with out dropping a ton of cash. Get a tune, leave the boost alone, get the largest width wheel/tire you can run, add fat sways front and back and get HP+ pads. go from there in STU. Add SEAT TIME so you can read the track faster. It's 40% tires and 60% driver in autocross. The rest is only worth a second or so in your time.

Great advice Superdude. After this weekend, I know that seat time is KEY. A good course walk also very important. I watched one car use 3/4 of his run missing the same slalom and getting waaayyyy off course and totally lost. My last two runs were the first time I took off traction control. I got faster each run, so I'm on the right track. Now I just got to pick out my events and get going on adjusting the nut behind the wheel. Soo much fun! I don't know why I waited so long.

Superdude is super fast! Just thought I would put that out there!:bowdown::clap: fastest time of the day, raw time and pax time! My best time was 55.2, I had a lot of fun!:wiggle:

My doors are always open for ride a longs on my first 3 runs. They call me the School Bus ;)

51.2 and there was still more out there. For some reason, the turn around before the slalom was faster then I thought. I was able to trail break around the double cone going into the turn and power down before I was even at the apex. The cold surface let me rotate just enough. This was a good course for AWD cars. A lot of the exit cones allowed for our cars to push the apex late in the turns. I was hanging my ass out on most of them.
