Short throw shifter

Discussion in 'Modifications & DIY how-to' started by hustlerofculture, May 7, 2010.

  1. First, if I am posting this in the incorrect forum, please let me know, and I'll move it wherever it belongs...

What are the opinions on which short throw shifter (for STI) is the "best"?

    Subaru?
    Kartboy?
    Other?

I prefer kartboy over anything. but there are a lot of choices out there

  3. Do you have any insight into how different the throw distance is between the subaru and kartboy products?

..any other factors I should look @ (beyond price of course)?

    Thanks for the reply!

I know the kartboy gives you 40% less throw over stock, but everything I've read on the Subaru short shifter is only 18% shorter...

now, having said that, I can't find anything (specific to the Subaru) for the GR or 6speed for that matter, so it could be a higher difference now.

i've never heard anything bad about the Cobb shifter...and it's adjustable.

There are several good brands out there. If you're going to be replacing it I strongly suggest you look into TiC's bodacious bushing bundle (all of the bushings for the shifter assembly) and upgrade them at the same time.

personally I think the kartboy is too short, I don't want to have to reach/search for the stick when I am on the track...I have a hard enough time keeping on track when I can find the stick. LOL

That's why the Cobb is a nice piece, shorter throw without the loss in height. Either way, while you're in there you should go ahead and upgrade the bushings.

Should be. From a budget standpoint the kb ss lever is cheaper. You can probably find a used one off nasioc. I'd go with new bushings however.
