A while back I had the an oil leak from the hard line to the turbo. The dealership replaced it under warranty and now I am still getting a slight smell of burning oil still once the car is warmed up. I had cleaned the engine bay pretty good after the first leak was fixed. Any ideas / Suggestions where I should be l looking for a slight leak? There are no visible leaks under the vehicle or the plastic skid plate. I still have about 9k before my extended warranty runs out, but would like to least identify where this is coming from, so I can show the dealership. I have a feeling its a gasket some where, but not sure which ones I should be looking at. Car is a 05 STI ~71K on the odometer.
any chance the residue is still on the bottom end? If the original leak was bad enough the entire X member, rack, basically the entire passenger side suspension, gets flung on dp/exhaust then the smell starts. If not, maybe check valve cover gaskets or maybe some seepage from the turbo oil return.
I agree with techlord. On my lgt, the valve covers leak very little, but gravity takes over, it runs down my crossmember and ends up falling back on the exhaust, and once that heats up and if there's enough you can smell it and sometimes see the smoke.
If thats the case I am wondering if the dealer will replace the gaskets under warranty before mine is obsolete.
I would take the plastic undertray off and look around with a flashlight and shop towel. Or since you have a warranty, if you're able to drop it off at the dealer and let them deal with it. Good luck.
