SMC meth kit fails again

Okay this is like the 5th or 6th pump I've been through. I'm running 100% methanol injection and the pumps just simply will not hold up. Steve has been awesome but this is getting redicoulous. I can't even enjoy my car without worrying about the kit failing left and right. First he spends all this money on new seals and they still leak. Then he revises the pumps and uses through bolts with nuts to fix that and now this pump is leaking waaaaaay worst than any pump I've had. I'm not calling it quits until I talk with Steve Monday but this is not reliable. Anyone with SMC kit or even a meth kit period should check their pump on a regular basis.

I may just have to go 75/25 mix on this next pump and see how that works out. Sigh this totally ruined my weekend.

just got my 3rd from Steve and it seems to be holding up. Just curious how many weeks/months between failures and where is your pump mounted?

I am on my second in 2 years. The first one lasted 1.5.

Are you using meth or heet? I have never run anything but vp meth in mine.

I am using pure 100% standard clear methanol from the local Fuel company.

Slowwrx how long has the cooling mist pump been on your car. I'm trying to think of what's the problem. The nozzle that goes into my FMIC piping goes on the underside of the pipe right above where the Perrin turbo pipe is. You the hot pipe that feeds the IC. That nozzle is lying directly near that pipe. That being said both pipes are heat wrapped but you think that hte nozzle is getting so hot that the meth in the lines could be boiling and popping the seals on the pump? Should I move the nozzle so that it's placed on top of the FMIC piping?

Man this sucks. I was so ready to get a meth setup installed in August. Don't know if I'm going to do it anymore. This is truly disappointing.

    Keep us updated man.

I will. Don't be discourage though. It seems like this issue is very hit and miss. However I see a trend going....the old original kits are holding up more it seems. I mean LiquidForce has lasted a while.

What is unique to me is the question? Is it that I go through more meth than the normal user? I don't think so. My tank normally lasts me 3 gas tanks or so. I dunno but Steve wants to fix this issue so I'll be patient and work with him. However this is a record holding $20K car that we are talking about....I can't afford to not watch the pump all the time and blow up the car. Also why should I constantly monitor the pump like I do.....it should hold up so my patience is wearing thin. I'm not mad.....just very aggravated.

Yeah but your controller sucks. Don't ask how I know.

I like my controller, Siegel is just paranoid. If you update the firmware you can lock the knobs.

Well let me see what resolution we come up with from Steve. If all else fails you may hear from me.

Just got off the phone with Steve. I remember when I got the new controller tuned that SS said my car pushes a lot of methanol....more than any other WRX kit his has tuned. That being said Steve thinks that the controller is flakey and is pushing the pump too much. I think I've seen the pressure ramp up to 150 psi which is 30-40 psi more than what it should push at. This in turn will blow the seals. I'm sending the pump and the controller along with a sample of my methanol to Steve all for testing. This issue is going to be resolved Steve assured me. I'll keep everyone informed....maybe it's just a flakey controller.

Coolrex, does the meth you use have any lubricant in it?

Curious what Steve says the PSI should be??? My new one is pumping around 80-90psi, my first pump I want to say was just over 100 and the last pump leaking was pushing in the 50-60psi.

It should be around 110-120 psi.

10th Street or Siegel...I'm using non-lubed 100% pure clear methanol.

Okay I have my pump back and it's working great. My car must've missed it because it's pulling like a bat out of hell or I just got used to the pump tune which SUCKS compared to the meth tune. 90 psi at the pump which is good.

Steve @ SMC said that there was a nasty hole in the seal. I think the seal cap had something in it that punctured the hole but I got an entirely new pump. No leaks so far.

Now for the test of time........
