They'll all freak out and say Search n00bs! Or some crap like that....

But my question is, do you guys have an EXTREMELY annoying creak that comes from your windshield or dash area? I'm so sick of this frikin creaky crap that I'm actually thinking about selling my car. I just can't live with the idea that my 2006 WRX is creaking so much.

That probably sounds vain or something... but it's so annoying!

    Help!

I've been on wrxatlanta.com for several months now. I recently bought my first WRX and have asked many "stupid questions" on these forums. I think that you will find people will answer you no matter what you ask, it's really a great crowd here.

As for your noise, I know exactly how you feel. It is soo annoying! Not sure what would cause it. Any other 06 owners out there with the same issue?

that sucks man..I have not heard anything about the 06's creaking..it might be a warranty issue..does it sound like a plastic creak or like a metal or glass creak? does it happen in the turns or all the time?

the only problem that I hate about my car is the rattles from the door when the radio is on..but I guess you cant have it all for a $20K'ish car

No creaking, but I do have a plastic rattle from my front passenger air vent...still need to look at that.

I'd have someone ride with you for the purpose of finding the origin of the sound. Have them feel around the car...try and put pressure on areas to see if it stops...then go from there. Maybe even record it...I want to know what the creak sounds like.

Then we could make a library of noises on here and how to fix them! Yeah that's what we should do!

And definitely not a stupid question...this is not one of those forums where everything has been discussed 800 times over...so don't worry about it.

I have that noise!!!!!!! Mine's coming from the glove compartment. The noise stops when you press it in while driving... I've looked all around and can not find a loose screw or anything. Just gonna have to take it to the dealer.... grrrrr...........

get thin sheets of foam (ensolite) and place in between the door card and the sheetmetal

also cut some rubber tubing 3/16 ID to encase the rods that goes between the door open levers and the latch

very possible is the wiring behind / under the dash
I had one that drove me nuts till i wrapped it with insulation - electric wire that connects the clock

I felt over there on the highway on the way back from varsity tonight...and I swear I can feel it coming from the vent...but yes it could be some wiring or something behind the vent or in the vicinity. I'll do some investigating this weekend.

I've taken my door panels off twice now for new speakers and then speaker spacers,... I thought it might be a loose door panel snap. Have you done any door panel removal?

Not sure.... There is play in the glovebox though and when its open, you can feal the left side defenitily has more movement than the other... Haven't removed any doors/dash panels.... Cars brand new.. grrr....

Mine's a month old, just can't stand stock stereos. Oh well only does it every once in a while or on the highway. Sorry for the thread jack or sorts.

THe dash creak is notorious among 02/03 WRXs, hadnt heard much about it on the newer ones. You can pull the upper dash pieces apart and put foam between them to make it go away.

    Your car is noisy. ;)

On a serious note, I've heard the creak in mine around the lower windshield, dash area, as well as occasionally, on the driver's side vent closest to the door. I have yet to diagnose it. When my wife rides along, I have her touching various parts of the dash to see I can narrow it down. I notice it much more at highway speeds.

Those rattles that you talk about from the door can be really easily solved with a little dynamat.

As for the creaks from the windshield, I notice them on my car also. Especially when the body gets twisted a little bit. When I come off my driveway, I go off on an angle, as soon as one of my front tires hits the street, but the other is still up on the driveway, I hear it. Not sure if it is a Plastic, Metal or Glass creak. I am going to look into it a bit more over the weekend. It is much worse now that it is cold out.

I've experienced the twisting effect also and I certainly noticed it more the past few days with the cold weather. Keep us posted if you find out any information.

My 04 sti makes all sorts of noises. The best part is, if you isolate one (ie the mirror) and holdit, another noise occurs. That's partially what makes a Subaru a Subaru ;)

So, to answer your question, the noise is perfectly normal.

Haha, it's like the old hole in the dam thing. Plug one, and another one opens.

And yeah, I have different noises in my cabin as well. If you are really bothered by it, the best bet is to do what some others are saying and dynomat the hell out of your body panels.

Exactly. If you have a chattering from your dash, get some lube and relube the teeth in the defroster panel, etc. There's a whole series of ways to quiet it all up. It just takes time and money.

    Holy mad replies Batman!

See though, my creak is definitely in the windshield. I can lightly push on the centre of the glass and it'll creak a little. I first noticed it once when I drove over a large hump at low speed going into a driveway, which kind of torqued the frame a little.

Since then it has gotten to the point where it takes less and less stress on the car to make it creak. Like somethings gotten worn out. I suppose I could take it to the stealership and see if they know anything, or can figure anything out.

Thanks for the replies. I know these things pester everyone from time to time.

Yeah no doubt. I can't imagine the dealership having a reasonable solution to it. They'll probably want to replace my windshield which will undoubtedly take at least two weeks. Lol.
