He went to Norway to visit family and stopped at the Subaru dealership there. They had the Outback and Forester diesel there. He was very impressed. Turbo is up front. Has both a timing belt and a timing chain. VERY torquey but that little turbo dies off at 5500 rpms. He has the brochure at his desk but I can't read Norwegian. The timing belt drives the drivers side cams where the chain drives the passenger side cams. I'm thinking the chain is there because of the heat the turbo generates in that area. Nice concept.
I just asked him. Died up top around 4800ish and it redlines at 6ish. That's pretty high revs for a diesel but I've always been in diesel trucks that only turn 3-4 k.
nice to hear about the diesel subie, i posted up a long time ago when i read about it in a magazine... i cant wait to see one built... i know the trucks can make 600 torque easy with a chip so it will be interesting to see what people do to them...
video of the legacy... cant even hear the thing running... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igbbjS7QJyM
I have an exploded view of it here from the Norwegian brochure. However putting the turbo there on your car will result in you needing to do something with the belts on that side of the engine including the timing belt.
