^Above^ what is the cheapest way to more power on the ej20t/25t? i have heard new up and down pipe, cobb reflash, sti intake mani, and kn intake yeilds gains of 80whp? what is the best thing to do? what is the fastest way to hp? what is the most reliable? i like tq too but i see no problem in that department
Up/down pipe, Cobb AP Stage 2 will give you around 280hp at the crank. That's about a 35-40whp gain. K&N intake will get you a bunch of noise and that's about it. Never seen anybody put on an STi intake manifold, not sure if there'd be any point to that. After up/down pipe (and catback helps a little, not much) the next step would be a bigger turbo.
Those mods minus the STi intake maniflold and adding an MRT cold air intake put me at 232hp 238tq at the wheels. Using around 170 whp as stock, that puts me at a little over 60 whp gained... I would start with engine management(either AP or Ecutek) and go from there. Depends on your $$$$ situation.
STi manifold is the same as the WRX, just powdercoated red. Hack the silencer and put in a K&N panel filter and it will be just as effective until you get a bigger turbo. UP/DP are obvious winners next and then I'd recommend engine management and an STI topmount. Be on the look out for STI bits like the intercoolers and turbos since they will work on our cars and can be found quite cheap.
what, i hear that the sti intake mani is different it was on another subie site i think iwsti.com?? so what exactly is the up/dp? they link direct to the turbo right? isnt the up unique to subaru? how about a fmic?
stick to the basics..they work! uppipe/downpipe then engine management..after that turbo/ injectors/intercooler.
the mods that everyone else has listed will give very nice gains, but i found that i got the most gains from going to a junk yard and gettin a vteck solenoid from a totalled 96-98 civic and having Dominque's shop hook it up and tune it.... i would suggest starting with an up, catless dp, catback, then sti intercooler or bigger....then get ecutek. that is what i have done and i am very happy with my car. and if you run catless then you can shoot flames!
i would say get at least ONE cat for environment and future. It will robs you like 1-2% of your HP at top, but will save more than 200-500% of pollution from catless setup. One 3" high flow cat won't hurt any performance unless u get super big ass turbo.
if you have some kind of EM, you can delete certain CELs (that's related to exhaust components). If you do that, during emission test, your ECU will return "OK" status to emission tester since there is no CEL. Luckily, georgia is not doing visual inspection.
Id start with EM and go from there to be honest. As far as cheap............. Hard to say without knowing your cheap threshold and how many horsepowers you want
I agree... I'm not going to slam anybody running catless, but I opted to pay the extra $ for a high flow catted downpipe to save a few trees.
i do feel bad that i am messing up nature, but the smell of catles is quite nice to me and flames(ricer) are fun for while.
