05 legacy gt 45k The clutch is on its last leg, slipping in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. I've had mixed experiences with SoG. For instance: I had a couple belts replaced, and they gave the car back to me, belts were embarrassingly loose, had a squeeling car for a week until i had time to get back. 2: got oil change (park of 40k maint) and they never pop-ited back to plastic shield underneith. And it dragged on ground while driving for a day and 1/2 until i noticed. Given, these aren't huge mistakes, but they are mistakes none-the-less, so for something as vital as a clutch, i'm don't want it to be half-assed. I'm waiting on Price Quotes from both places right now. But while i'm waiting on that, anyone get their clutch replaced by either SoG or TopSpeed?
Here's an old link you may want to look though. http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9239 Don't want to DIY??
I'm getting mine done at Lethal Injection. The price was just right. Plus John is an ex-subaru tech. I'll let you know how it goes once it's finished.
Located in Marietta. They don't post on any of the forums. But a few members here go there. I specialize in all sorts of cars and are really cool guys.
I would say talk to them both and see what they say. I think both places have knowledgeable people. No wrong answer here.
If its a 8hr job for a "professional", then it would take me atleast 2 days. And it would probably drive like shyt afterwards.
I did mine at TopSpeed over a dealership just because of price. It took a little longer than expected but overall I was very happy with TopSpeed.
It's a breeze but I have done stuff like this before. The hardest thing is getting the tranny to slide off and back on. Mind you I did all of this by myself and its a 5 speed. The 6 speed heh I would be scared to bench that heavy sucker without help.
yeah i had mine done at topspeed, mainly cuz i had a dyno tune the next week. but the price was decent and the work was topnotch.
My throw out bearing is going, and when I decide to replace my clutch I am having it done at Lethal Tuning. They do great work and its a trip to see the cars they have at the shop (skylines and LeMans replicas)
Yeah, i emailed the guys @ lethal tuning, got a error on the email address, guess its not valid. I have ordered all the parts online (disc, pressure plate, bearings, fork). all for about 350 shipped. Topspeed gave me a better quote on labor than SoG, so i'm gonna go with them. I've had a couple things done by SoG and in both instances they let me leave with something done half-assed, i don't think i want to take that chance with my clutch. Parts should be @ my door on Monday, i'll keep ya posted.
I think at this point I will only request Will at Sog. There may be other good mechanics, but he is the only one that has earned my trust at this point! As for getting the clutch done, I know a good tranny guru that I can recommend that is very reasonable and does do side work from the shop that he works at...usually at discount prices.
I had some work done on my wagon at SoG, and am very pleased....Thank God it was under warranty...I have a lot of trust in Will also, but now I only know the master mechanic there and Chris...I guess Justin is no longer there. +1 for SoG!!!. Mark
