I got a hitch installed on the wagon a month or so ago and ever since I have heard some metal squeaking when going over bumps and general shaking when driving the car. I am thinking that it is where the STI tip is hitting the hitch. Just need a second opinion to be sure and then what is going to be my resolution. I am thinking if the outer shroud has a gap before the actual exhaust pipe I can mark the area, drop the axle back and cut out the outer part on the tip to clear the hitch. The tack weld looks like it is out of the way so I should be able to do some cutting without any problem. The squeaking is really starting to annoy me.
Do a hammer modification with a big screwdriver..just angle it in aginst the area that is hitting and whack it..
kartboy exhaust hangers may cure ur squeak. Something a bit longer to pull ur exhaust down away from the hitch a tad http://www.kartboy.com/basket/catalog.cgi?query_net_id=kartboy&query_class=KB-011
Yeh already tried to pull the exhaust down and the hangers are holding tight. I may just go get a new axle back gasket and pull it on Saturday when I am changing fluids and do a cut out. The screwdriver and BFH is tempting though.
not sure if your hangers have hole in the center but if they do seperate the hole and put something between it... it will give a little extra room... if that makes since...
yeah we did that at the shop i worked at... sometimes metal would settle or rise a bit as the welds cooled... we would just stick i nut or anything that fits in the middle of the hanger and it normally gives enough room... just pry the exhaust down so it opens and then place something in there, adjust the size for the amount of movement you need
I ran the Kartboy long hangers, which lower it a little bit and let it clear the hitch. Size difference: -Brian
long urethane hangers help alot but a hitch is so easy to take off and re-install that that's how i do it now. tried everything. folding a peice of cardboard up and shoving it between the two is a good temporary fix.
Sorry for the delay. It was actually between the exhaust hanger on the left and the side of the hitch mount. I don't think the pic was the exact source. I put a piece of foam rubber in between them and it stopped. Now it is time for a new battery...
