man, i dont know if my rack is going bad, or my tie-rods are bad, but everytime i turn the wheel to the left (wrapping it all the way) when the car is moving slowly, i hear a horrible grind and it feels like it's not turning all the way. it's a 03 bugeye sedan with 90K miles on it and the only mod as far as handling is the whiteline steering rack bushings.
Dunno if it'll help but I get one occasionally when backing up with the steering wheel at full-lock to the right. Started happening right after I lowered the car but I cant find out what it is.
i`m gonna get my car checked out soon, so i`ll let you know if the shop can find out what's going on.. I just feel guilty for taking some turns really hard hehe...(flicking the wheel left and right really quick) occasionally i felt like i beat the rack when i turn the wheel.
well, my problem exactly feels more like, i dunno, as i turn the wheel more and more, starting from a certain point, there is no resistance in the rack... it just turns but the wheel doesnt turn? like, my steering wheel is turning, but inside the rack, there is no more resistance and it feels like something came loose. it was only doing it when i turn left, but now it started doing it when i turn right too (not as much, but started doing it). any auto-x ppl experience something similar?
Well you're nearing a huge inspection date, just get it checked out. I cant imagine you killed the whitelines already
Check the bushings to make sure they are still in the correct place. Check your power steering fluid resevior. Then check for any loose components on that side, control arms, sway bar, endlinks, strut, etc... After that, if all is good and the problem is still persisting, then go see a specialist.
May want to check and make sure that you've got plenty of power steering fluid. Have you noticed any leaks or puddles of fluid when you leave somewhere you've been parked?
when the car goes onto a higher patch of concrete (like say, from a neighborhood cul-de-sac to the driveway, there is a little gap and the driveway concrete sits a little higher), the wheel just turns to the right really aggressively.
