1) Do you have any internal engine modifications? 2) How much boost are you running? 3) 100% meth or mix? 4) How many miles on the setup? 5) How many pumps have failed?
I'm not an STi owner 'yet' but on the 'weak' EJ205 I have over 70,000 miles meth injected. I run through a .75 Gallon tank every 2-3 gas tanks. You all know I beat the piss out of the car. I also change my oil every 5,000 miles. Yes 5,000 miles unless I've been doing a LOT of romping and playing that requires continous meth spray.
1) Mahle Pistons 2a) 28psi 1st 2nd, 3rd and 25psi in 4th, 5th and 6th 2b) 30 in all gears at the strip with race gas 3) 90/10 Meth/Water. 4) 10k miles on this block I had a stock sti block with wrx heads for about 20k miles before the current block but I toasted the ringlands. Some of it might have been from running a 80/20 Meth/Nitro mixture.
Thanks for the prompt responses. I have added another question about how many failures you might have had. Trying to gather local data. I could find a lot of information on IWSTI and NASIOC but local data would show me what has worked for local tuners Did you run the same boost curves on the stock block before it was damaged?
Yep. Genya was running 28psi on pump and meth. My old block was running around 9.2:1 cr so I kept the boost a little lower.
Should be between 8.7 and 8.9 with the new heads and gaskets. With my compression tester my car is at 175psi. With the old block/old head combo it was 180, New block/old heads was 170 For reference a stock sti I checked was in the 150's and a built sti block with CP pistons came up 135. I hope that made sense.
I went through 2 sureflo pumps in 3 weeks time using 100% meth. Switched to 50/50 and havnt had a problem since... It's been a 1.5 years now.
as long as you have the right seals for pumps, it will be fine engine wise, who knows what's going to happen in the long run...
To add to your new question. 7 pumps have failed (and by failed they started leaking bad). This last one was a brand new one and not a rebuilt one. So far it's holding longer than any of the others. Time will tell.
Is this the large cylindrical unit that has mounting points at 4 corners? If so, it's the same one that I have. How long has it been on your car?
All of mine were cylindrical. When you say mounting points what are you referring to? The old units used to have 8 screws that held the unit together.....4 on one side and 4 on the other. The new ones have bolts that go ALL the way through the pump and have nuts on the back side of them. That provided a better and tighter seal. Also the new seals have been revamped like twice. On my old pump that was rebuilt each time except this last bout, there seemed to be a small imperfection in the case which we think was the issue. I just checked mine the other day and it was dry. I check it about once a week.
1) NO 2) 28+ 3) 100% meth 4) Just over 10K miles 5) Only 1 and it just failed last week while Scott was tuning my Hydra on the dyno (leaky seals). I have gotten a year and a half and 10K miles out of my SMC pump on my Spec C tank set up. And it is my understanding that the newest pumps that Steve @ SMC uses has meth resistant seals now so there really shouldn't be too many more failures. Go ahead and run meth with your SZ65 set up and turn your car into a real beast. With Scott's tuning, you wont have much to worry about.
Considering that your setup is the most similar to mine that I know of, I am glad to hear that you have been happy. In fact, it was a ride in your car that made me decide to get the SZ65 I can't wait until Friday :wiggle:
XanRules: You could find more information here: http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4314 Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming
I have been more than happy with my set up. Don't be scared Friday. Let Scott turn that boost up. Mine was only tuned to about 26 psi peak. We ran out of ECU resolution around there. Now that we have all of the resolution that we need with the Hydra, we are shooting for 28-30 psi peak. That's the only part I didn't like about my set up, I got used to the power LOL. Tell Scott to hurry and get yours done Friday so that he can finish mine afterwards. I'll get by till I send my Red back for the 8cm hot side and wheel & IWG upgrade.:naughty: Good Luck!!! Let me know how it goes!
I was, but the Dtec got to where it wouldn't always hit target. Plus Scott cut it back a bit during the cold weather since the Dtec didn't have intake air temp compensation for WG duty cycle. 28+ will be back soon with the Hydra.:naughty:
Bobby's is done. Neither Enginuity or Ecuflash has found the Gear Determination Thresholds table yet, so I just set 3rd-5th the same and only added boost in 1st and 2nd. I haven't heard yet if Ecutek has the GDT table for YOUR ecu yet either. I've got 15+ different JDM STi ecus, but not your exact one... Some of the others have the GDT, some don't. See you in a few hours Milo Siegel
