I am going to try it myself. From what i read the only changes I need to make are on the MAF sensor just because I want to change the stock air box to a Injen CAI. Everything else should stay the same since the map is already tune for a turboback. If not maybe I can get one of you guys to help me out. Or take it over to TopSpeed and see what can they do.
engine tuning is something im real afraid to mess with... i had UTEC earlier which was tunable... now i have ECUTEK and the ECUTEK data moitor with the user tune enabled... however, in neither case did i ever mess with the settings... i'd like to learn how everything works but definitely don't wanna learn on my daily driver
I am a little worried, but we all must learn a little abouting tuning, thats the future of the news cars these days. I might have Scott from SOG play with it and see what he thinks of the ST
i'd recommend u go that route... i wouldn't tune my car unless i knew EXACTLY what i was doing... on second thought, if scott can tune cars, then it sure cant be hard... jk scott... please don't get mad and 'accidentally' blow up my car next time
I agree with Milo, have somebody who knows how to tune do it for you, at least the first time. If you are good, you may be able to understand what they did and do it yourself next time. I would suck big time to blow that beautiful 2.5 engine because you made a mistake tuning.
Cool. I have been talking myself out of the ST for a while now since I wouldn’t know what to do with it. However since I haven’t had any luck getting options for an upgrade path I’d love to check it out when it comes in.
Oh yeah, one more problem. I am a Mac (Apple computer, for you windows fan) I don't have a windows labtop and the software is in windows format :crying: But my kids have a windows desktop. I will be able to change the maps that it comes with but won't be able to do any live tuning. Wow I sound like a tuner
I will let you borrow one if you need it. It's not much but you are welcome to use it. Let me know when it comes in.
I agree about the pro tuning to a point. If I ever had the time and money, I would want to learn to do it myself. I would imagine that getting a good knowledge base, make veeery small adjustments in the tuning as you learn, and being patient would let you get reasonably good at it. Now, to tune as well as Scott or some of the other tuners in the area? Skill can only take you so far, these guys seem to have that something extra...
theres a lot of people out there that play with the tune on the UTEC... from what i hear, its not too hard to play with the tune if u know what ur doing and wanna get a little extra umph... but to do a whole map... i'd leave that to the pros...
Let me know how you like it, sounds interesting and fun , id like to get a preview if you get a chance sometime.
Well, it should be here Monday, looking at my UPS tracking number. So far I know it comes with pre set maps. One of the maps is for having just a turboback, so we can play with that one just to change the MAF sensor so I can get my red injen CAI on. I'll leave the fuel, injector cycles, timing and the close or open loop to the pro's. It does come with a security key so the person that has that key if the only person that can use the software so i would guess that I can install it in as many computers I want but it will that work unless you got the key.
Its Here  I went and got a labtop. For you guys that offer to help with the labtop thanks. But there is a catch. If I want to install it on another computer I have to actually un-married it from the ecu (go back to stock), uninstall the software from the computer and AP. Then I start over on the new computer, reflash the ecu again. So its only good for one computer. So far I flashed the ST Stage 2 map un-modified. So now I got to get it live-tuned. Pictures are coming, give me a day or two :bigthumb:
Now this may sound like a dumb question. How do I take a picture of my desktop on a windows computer? I know how to do it on a Mac. but this is actually my first windows computer
oh yea what he said hold cntrl and hit print screen and open up paint and paste then save i am also a mac user .. mac > pc , ive used pc for 6 years, and got my mac a year and love it wouldnt trade it in for nothing
paste in paint/photoshop or any other image editor software and resize till its small enough... in photoshop, u could make it a JPEG and play with the quality also
siegelracing and doug@topspeed are tuners and they're on the board from time to time... chime in on them and see what they say from the display, it looks like tuning it would require a decent amount of knowhow...
Got to talk to Scott @ SOG. Showed him the ST. Went thru the software and what it is capable of doing. Did not change anything on my ecu. But he liked it. He took my STi for a spin and gave a :bigthumb: on how it feels with the un-modified ST map I flashed. Hopefully I will setup some time with Scott when he has free time.
Got a new map from one of the guy on the wrxforum (cobb's forum) Flash it today, its a real time map. I have to do a couple of runs to log and see what it is doing. So far I was able to see tops of 18.7 Boost psi on my AP. Car is running smooth and faster that ever. :bigthumb:
Oh yes, its fun when you can make different maps for different situations. You can have a race, daily, economical, valet, maps all ready to load whenever you want.
Might have whoever we go with on the next dyno day to take a look at the street tuner and maybe make some live tuning on it. So far I have made some live tuning with the help of the guys at COBB's forum.
