Stock ported manifold or aftermarket header?

I am going to be running an ej257 shortblock with some 1997 JDM WRX heads. With the heads I am running I will have a comp. ratio of 8.7:1 or around there. I am wanting to run a td06 20g turbo and my horse power goals are around 350 whp.

I am wondering if I should retain my stock exhaust manifold and port it and run a grimmspeed high flow cross pipe. Or run an after market manifold.

All comments and suggestions considered. Thanks in advance.

I think you will be just fine with the stock header.

I have your VF-22 by the way, I'm curious as to your choice of heads? Also you had talked of getting your harness merged, are you planning on a WRX engine management?

I bought a whole JDM engine and trans swap on ebay and sold the shortblock and turbo and basically made my money back. Also the heads are the second best flowing heads subaru made. The base power from that engine is 280ps as opposed to the plane jane usdm wrx's 227 chp. I had to get my harness merged to get the jdm computer to work in my car. I have a full Apex power fc standalone engine management. plus it is cheaper.

If you don't mind keep me updated on the vf22 and how it does. Thanks.

Stock ported headers are fine for your build. I was running the grimmspeed ported headers and xover pipes when I made 420 whp.

22 is just fine, the motor is to tired to take advantage of it's potential at this time though.

Ported stock headers will be fine for your HP goal. I made 528whp at TopSpeed with my Grimmspeed P&P'd stockers with their cross over pipe on my 05 STI.

I vote for ported stockers. I bought a set of the Grimmspeed ones once, and they looked nice. Sold them before I got them on the car though.

Thanks for all the input guys, I was leaning towards stock ported and you guys confermed it for me. Thanks again.
