It repeatedly runs near 415wlb-ft and 347whp, but the customer wanted the high plot posted... 1/4 times to follow soon. This is with Intake, TXS TMIC, TBE, Ecutek, SMC Meth, tuned fairly conservatively for summer heat road-racing... (this is Scott Sanders' car, my old pump-gas record car, 360 wlb-ft, 324 whp, 12.4 @ 109 before the meth) SS
If you will wait about two weeks Scott will be tuning my buddies VF34. 02 WRX with Turbo XS downpipe and uppipe, Prodrive catback, Ebay ginormous TMIC, and Meth injection on an Accessport Protune by SS of course. If his clutch holds I am thinking it should hit 300 hp with 310-320 tq. I may get surprised though.
This is where I'd like to be. Of course I don't really want to use meth though. What kind of replacement turbo would one need to make this kind of power with say, a better top mount, some good tuning and possibly some other fuel management components?
I would go with a bigger turbo like a 18 or 20G and a bigger TMIC, maybe some more tuning, and you'd be up there....
Do you know what specific turbo I should look at. I mean I'm seriously thinking about saving up for one n' stuff. But I've been wondering if I really need a bigger top mount (than the STi's) or could I get the benefits I need from more fuel delivery. A bigger compressor should mean lower temps.
the STi TMIC will restrict flow at high flow rates... so with a bigger turbo, it might be wise to upgrade to something bigger... preferable bar and plate i personally wouldnt go any smaller than a 20g on a 2.5 block
I personally like the 20g. I feel that it fits well with the 2.5 block, but if it is too big for ya, then why don't you do like a VF-34, it's going to spool quick and make good power. You gotta remember that just about anything is an impovement over the stock turbo. It really depends on what you want to do with the car.
20G, TXS TMIC = near 370 wlb-ft and 360 whp. FMIC might do 380 wlb-ft 370 whp... TMIC + Meth 430 wlb-ft 420 whp, pushing a little, easy to do with a FMIC... SS Mike is right, the 34's are great on the 2.5's, when they get the low-rpm timing thing worked out, that becomes an "insta-spool" setup... SS
20G it is then! Although the low end power is very tempting. I just recently read an article about an T3 T4 Garrett TD05 20G that sparked my attention. That thing looks like it has some pretty good numbers but it's not water cooled so, that sucks.
