(Sorry if this is not the right Forum for this qa.) I started my stock(no mods) 2002 bugeye today. Hard started but started on first crank. I immediately had a raw fuel smell coming through the cabin followed by rich smelling exhaust. Seemed to be running fine. Good strong idle revved well. I don't know if it is the weather since it is unusually cold. One significant thing I did notice was the stronger than usual exhaust smell kept coming in through the air vent after blowing the vent out for a couple minutes on high. Should I be concerned or maybe just a anomaly? :eek3:
There was a topic about this a couple of weeks ago. Im on a mobile phone right now and can't really search around for it but if someone could post a link it'd be great. Im actually noticing the smell in my 03 too now.
The fuel smell is caused by shrinking of the lines due tot he cold weather. if you tighten the clamps it should go away. yes it is a common thing, no you shouldn't be worried, just good luck getting to it. (answer per the SE SOA DSM, asked him a while ago)
Interesting! Thanks for the quick response. As long as there are no worries I am fine. There is something strangely enticing about the smell of fuel anyway and I'm a non-smoker(Ha)! When I go after that fix you better believe some STI Pinks are on the way in as well. There is no fix that doesn't deserve a mod
The same thing happened in my sti! It was while at idle and with the heat on. I have no catts so figured thats y that was. Its pretty dam scary though!:eek3:
VERY COMMON PROBLEM. and yeah, posted once or twice already. but fairly simple fix, like said above, just a pain in the ass to get to.
C'mon the cold is what these cars were born for. I bought my car in Chicago. I was a Mustang guy and the salesman told me "in what other car can you do 13 second quarter mile in the snow". Best damn sales line I ever heard...............
My battery is definitely start to go, the cold weather makes it more prominent. The fuel issue is just what it is and Subarus are not the only cars that have it
