since aftermarket, and even oem turbos, aren't numbered by any particular sequence given their sizes or capabilities, is there a place/thread that I can read up on to understand some of the more common turbos, their sizes, the airflow they move, etc? I am completely ignorant here, and i really want to fill in this knowledge gap. I haven't found any thread close to what I was looking for, either. I figure noobs might appreciate some kind of 'turbo guide.'
I believe unabomber on nasioc has a turbo FAQ that is useful (he has one for just about everything) check out the n00b forum/faq forum on nasioc, look for unabomber's manifesto -- tons of info in there on just about every subject
that is a good one, but I was referring to this one http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1218459
Well criminy, I was searching for writeups, guides, faqs... went through about 200 search results & didn't see either of these. thanks alot. gots me some nahlej to absorb
if you are bored and really want some knowledge, just start reading through unabomber's manifesto in the newbie/faq forum on nasioc more knowledge than you really need in there
unfortunately, it seems prohibitively hard to zero in on the one kind of information one may be looking for... I didn't think i was doing anything unusually using the board searched and i still didn't get this stuff. I feel good that this has been assembled, but stupid that I actually did put forth effort to find it and came up nil...
all you need to search on is the awesome GT3076 with a 44mm wastegate plus a hint of meththly alcohol :coolugh: on a more serious note, if you have detailed quesionts just ask here
I'll agree with Mad Mallard, NASIOC's search function is useless as far as finding stuff these days... The way the search returns stuff, you have to wade through pages upon pages of useless information before you get something that's relevent to what you were searching on.
I see that you have 04 WRX w/ Auto. We, WRXatlanta members, are very knowledgeable as well. So, you can directly ask here. As a fellow 04 wrx owner, I recommend 18g, which I have. Any turbo you put in, it'll be slightly laggier than manual tranny, but with tuning, you can hold the boost during shifting which is a big plus for Autos. Try these turbos and learn more about it. I'm gonna list in the order of fastest spool to slowestest spool (which has inverse relationship with horse power). Mitsu TD04-13T (stock) Mitsu TD05-16G IHI VF-30 IHI VF-34 Mitsu TD05-16G Evo3 IHI VF-22 Mitsu TD05-18G Mitsu TD05-20G Then all different types of ball bearing GT series turbos (which might too much on stock block due to small usable power bands.)
here is some info on some of the ihi turbos i put together a while ago http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12330
