I will be leaving the area around 12:00pm - 1:00pm. I won't be driving super fast (baby and wife onboard), but am making this thread available to anyone who may want to travel together to the challenge. I would also be happy to caravan as well, with the understanding that I probably won't keep up when we hit the twisties in the mountains.... It will be held: http://www.maggievalley.org/maggievalleydirections.html I really want to try to go to this. Better start looking for lodging now... More info: Subaru Challenge It will be October 1st this year. The schedule of events, official hotel, etc. is at the link above.
Can we get a sticky to see who is going? This is only a 3 hour trip from here and the roads to get there and back essentially = a mountain run. Plus I was looking last night and cabins that sleep 6-8 people are only like $185 a night! Divded by 6 thats only $31 a night. come on guys we can do EEEEEETTTTTTTT!
I'm definately going. We'll probably take a long weekend and spend a few days up there. Maybe even get a little ww rafting in.
Just to give you an idea of what the roads around the location will be like....just getting there and back will be awesome!
I hope we get a more than a few people. Several of the sites I saw had like 4 cabins that were in a cluster to rent. We could rent out the enitre cluster with enough people. The wife is interested as long as we can get the baby settled down by then. Right now she still cries the majority of the day...
Well, I just registered...spurred on by the hope of a free ecutek from SOG. Anyways, I will be talking to the wife and looking for lodging for the event within the next couple days. Anyone else going??
where do you regester at? i went to the sc page but didnt see any regester info. *edit never mind im an idiot. lol
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=818683 Apparently Subaru is none to happy with the low registration numbers for this event so far. Come on guys, support our community. The swag last year was pretty good. The Subbie Hat I got turned into my favorite hat of all....
Just an FYI for those who are going, I am meeting my Parents and Brother up there and we are renting a cabin from this site. http://www.smokyfalls.com/maggievalleycabins.html If you get a few people together, and get a cabin with a few rooms, than it will be cheaper than a hotel. Our cabin is about 5 miles from the event site, but there are others that are closer...
I'll be going. I just registered for it. Too bad I don't have any decent tires. I'm game for getting a cabin if some other people would like to do that.
Hey guys, I may be able to get in on this. I've got to decide if I'd rather go racing or watch racing as this is the same weekend as the Petite LeMans race. I'd certainly be game on splitting up a cabin with someone. I'll know something by this weekend. Keep me in mind though.
This would be a perfect weekend to combine a lil autox and a dragon run.. I may even get in on this. Never done AutoX before. LOL hmmmm hnoes:
Is anyone thinking about driving up the day of the challenge? I think you would have to leave about 3:30 am.
change of plans... im soooo stupid i forgot... im travelling to CT for a conference and will be back late 9/30... i doubt i can make it up there to race the next morning
This will be fun will be my first time autocrossing the STi! I hope mere doesn't beat me too bad. -- Brian
looks like i will be driving up the day (morning) of the event. did not get a hotel room yet. thought a few friends would be going with me, but they backed out. so unless i can get a room for the night i will be leaving at 3am for the event. anyone else driving up that day? or anyone got room for one more in there hotel/cabin room?
I haven't gotten a hotel room yet either. I'm thinking about driving up there in the morning of the event because I don't feel like paying for a whole room by myself.
scratch that. now i have work till about 7/8pm on friday. so i wont hit maggie valley until late friday night/saturday morning. looks like no sleep for me. oh well.
this looks like a cool event and i'm thinking about going. I dont know if i should race or not i have never been in arace before and I haven't had my car that long. I dont have a room and am thinking about going up in the morning too if you morning people want to meet for the drive up...
We are on the road there now, Mere is driving, and I brought a SprintPCS wireless card with me. We should be there around 9pm, if anyone else is up there. -- Brian
The challenge was great! Beautiful weather, great crowd, 4 runs in a mostly casual atmosphere (they let two driver cars break up their runs however they prefered) and a nice location, if a bit of a tight course. Having not drive in an auto-x for awhile and on a completely new suspension set up, the course was a bit technical. Lots of pivot cones and not much room for opening the car up. I stayed in first gear the entire course! Fast people were running low 30's my best was a 35.3, but I hit a cone. All in all though, I felt pretty good about my car. My Dad co-drove, he had driven the car once before for about 30 seconds, and while he auto-x's regularly, its in a completely different vehicle (the MR2) and he took 4th in SM. The drive up and back wasn't too bad and the little cabin we rented would have been sweet had I not A) had a cold, and B) had a daughter who had a cold and C) had it for more than a day and a half! I'll post some pics up in a little while! Too bad you and Jason missed it and big ups to Meredith and Brian for being really nice people and taking pics of me on course, sharing their tarp space and just being generally cordial!
It was fun, and Mere beat me again Here are some pics: http://mere.darg.net/SubaruChallenge-10-1-05 Mere has the other camera, so I will put up some more pictures later, once I have a chance to download the pics from it. -- Brian
dang, didnt know you all loved going to maggie valley so much, i have a mountain house (sleeps 10, and thats just beds) in Waynesville, (hazelwood) so if in the future we need a place for a lot of people let me know.. it gets shut down in winter, which i believe this year they are doing in late November.
