My father-in-law has a couple of rail buggies that don't run and I have a ej22 that is just sitting around and was wondering if anyone of you guys had some ideas to input in this little thought in a mid engine Subaru powered buggy.

My thoughts were is to use the stock Subaru front crossmember, lower control arms, hubs, ect. Of course the whole rear frame of the buggy would have to be fabricated to accept the new crossmember and different suspension mounts from the existing buggy.

I am thinking I would have to use a fwd automatic transmission (I already have one just sitting around) because trying to use a 5-speed and making up some kind of linkage that would be a real cluster f**k.

    Any ideas would be awesome...

I do not want to have it as a rear engine setup. I want to run it on the street and maybe some track days, so I need the vehicle to handle really well. A mid engine setup will give me that better handling, rail buggy guys all know this.

You are about to waste a lot of money to have a car that both won't be fun on track it also won't be fast. Put some time and effort into the GC before you take on a project like this.

OK, I know that this little dream won't go through as money is already tight with the project I have now...but I really don't see how it will cost a lot of money as I already have all the stuff I need other that some metal tubing to fab up the rear and some suspension stuff.

I think you're grossly over simplifying the whole project. You need to be looking at it more like, "What would the $3,000 I have to spend get me?"
