Basically, I am sick of having my subwoofer box int he back of my car. I DO NOT need a massive amount of bass. I just want a little fuller range then I get with the stock speakers. I'll admit it, I occasionally like to turn it up a little and listen to rap/hip-hop or techno. I know I have a problem but I am working on it. Anyways, I currently have a 10" sub that I am pleased with, but I hate the box rolling all over the trunk. I have heard some cars that have the sub mounted in the wheel well and you have to turn it up pretty loud for the sub to actually make a difference. How much bass would I lose by building a really small enclosure that I could mount to the rear shelf, inside the trunk? I know there is some formula for maximizing the space in a box for a sub, but am not sure what it is. Thanks for any input!
Well your sub should have a spec sheet that shows the optimal amount of air in the enclosure, it should also give the volume that the sub takes up, add the two numbers together and make a box with that much interior space. You can use polyfill to make the sub sound like its in a bigger box. Why dont you just screw some brackets into the trunkliner to hold the sub in place, heavy duty velcro also works wonders.
Yeah dude, TECHNO? :fawk: Depending on the box design (ported, sealed, whatnot) you may or may not be able to pull it off. You will need a woofer that is designed for a very small enclosure--the manufacturers should list the specs on their website. Check out Kicker and JL for starters...
I am looking into the Spare Tire well Sub setup for the summer. I have never played with Fiberglass, so not sure how long it will take, or how good it will look. If you are looking for something to keep your Sub box from sliding around, I can build you a false floor out of MDF to mount the box to.
Thanks Jason! I really want to try to free up my trunk, while keeping the sub. I know putting it down in the wheel well is the best option, but I haven't been able to find a decent price on Resin and Hardner (fiberglass) anywhere. You got a source?
^^ I had that same problem when I was looking for fiberglass/resin/etc.... they said they didn't have any. Well.... I started looking around the paint/spray-paint area and what do ya' know.... they have it after all. I would suggest looking around in the paint area. They may very well not have any.
Are you talking about the one by Publix on 78 closer to Stone Mountain or the one by Walmart? I will def. check out the paint area...
The one down on ponce sells MDF. The logical solution is you come down here, and we go out to Chipotle which is right across the street.
The one by Publix... where the NTB and Burger King and whatnot is. They had it with the paint repair/patch stuff.
get an infinity basslink, mount it in the corner by bolting it down to the floor and be done. works good with me.
cool....where would i get one new?...don't have the money just yet so..this looks like it's gonna sell in a few days...
