SuperCharging a 03 2.5

Discussion in 'Modifications & DIY how-to' started by emstraumajunke, Dec 5, 2006.

  1. Ive been searching NASIOC for about an hr or so now and mainly gobs of imformation comes up but nothing certain.
I got a firend with a 2.5 rs and he wants to either Turbo it or Supercharge it.
I was told its kinda costly to turbo and you can only get about 8lbs on it so its not really worth it. Well then he asked me about a supercharger I told him id have to ask cause i dont have a clue. so im asking.
He really needs to get teh interent but oh well any help would be great.
    TIA

All I came up with was this. He talks about an "Opcon Autorotor" but after searching I found very little. The post is like 6 years old, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

and this, don't know how old it is, but they have an email.

    Or...you could get this:

So after searching the web a little while longer it looks like an actual kit might be hard to come by. There are people who have done it, but it looks like kind of a fabrication job.

  3. Yea theres not a whole lot on it i think im going to tell him start looking for a wrx thats been wrecked and get ready to do a swap or a build cause the turbo is pointless and the superchareger looks just as pointless

Right. There's just not really much point in supercharging that engine. When you look at it's actual N/A potential it's pretty easy to see that it is just not performance material. If it were that easy to make power Subaru wouldn't put so much into thier DOHC turbo engines, so to speak, or fortify them in terms of strength and longevity

I want to say that I remember hearing that without forced induction you can get a 2.5rs up to the performance level of a wrx (I'm guessing full exhaust, headers, intake, tuning, possibly a few internals?). You could always just add some nitrous and be set.

Hmm. Well the boxster is naturally a good performance engine, but I'm not sure about N/A HP numbers. I kind of doubt it has the ability to zing up like an inline 4. Especially without some serious cam work... But I could be wrong.

  7. He wanted a WRX but couldnt afford on so he got the RS thinking he could bu ymy injectors and turbo and header adn make it all work but it wont with out alot of other things and hes not going to want to spend it so hell just have to bite the bullet and buy a motor already for it with the ECU.

Maybe hell buy my old block and he can start a build

    pEd This ain't no Piccadilly!

    isn't Subiesport doing a write-up on making a RS into a WRX/STi beater??
May want to check it out.

yes they are, and yes they did. and yes it can.... but its so expensive you might as well start with a wrx unless you just really hate turbos. :)

The fountain of knowledge for your mate is over at www.rs25.com They have pretty much everything imagineable covered, even the supercharger kit, which i think only one got made and never made it into production.

The best value (not the most practical emission wise), is to get ahold of a jdm ej207g or k sti motor. I think that's the cheaper and fast engine. I could be wrong as i'm not very good with engine codes. Anyway, yeah, get ahold of one of them and get someone to swap it in for you.

    OR

If you wanna be a show off like Tyler, get yourself a whole RA clip...bastard!

I really don't understand why there aren't supercharger kits for this car. I kind of feel that anything thats NA and performance oriented should have a sc kit out there somewhere.

EDIT: Damn you for putting that link to the forums. I lterally just wasted like 45 minutes reading crap on there.

What's stock compression ratio? 10:1? There just might not be enough headroom to make a blower/turbo worthwhile on that motor. If you can only run a few psi boost safely it wouldn't be particularly cost effective.
