so,im getting a vf39, i know i need new injectors, fuel pump, and tmic but... about the injectors ... isnt it possible to mod the stock ones?
Yep... you probably want to get them flow tested though. You can also pick up a set of pinks used pretty cheap.
yes they can be modded but they would be way too much flow for the vf39. modded stockers usualy flow around 800. i would look into doing meth and then you might not have to do injectors at all. if you dont want meth and want injectors then i would go with sti pinks.
Is too much flow a problematic thing? or is it just not taking full advantage of thier capabilities?...and upgrading your fuel sytem will decrease you gas mileage as well correct?
I believe that the only problem with 'too big' injectors is if they won't allow you to idle properly. Also, upgrading your fuel system alone does nothing to gas mileage. It just enables you to run more power than the stock setup can handle.
yeah, if you're injectors are too big, you may have idle issues. Shouldn't be anything a good tune can't get rid of though.
i have heard that bigger injectors are: 1) laggy 2) have poor flow pattern at low flow rates... hence the idling issues
honestly, the idling isnt that bad... i had PE800s on my car and i have been in cars with modded stockers... mine idled fine... in fact scott bumped up my idle RPM and it was fine
If you're gonna step up and stick with VF39, I recommend with reliable meth/alky injection kit. Stock injectors will provide enough fuel with 100% meth PLUS you can make more power than using bigger injectors. If you know that you won't be satisfied with vf39, Just go head and get modded stock injectors. They just work great as the other $$$ ones. This will give you lots of headroom just in case you get bigger turbo, 2.5 shortblock, or BOTH. I recommend deatschwerk since it'll cost you only around $160 or so after core return. BTW, I have FP 18G turbo with Deatschwerk's modded stock injectors (850cc). There is slight hesitation when I first start the car in the morning, but that's gone within a second or two. I still have lots of headrooms, but i'm happy with 18g. It's just the perfect turbo that fits into my needs.
strait out of the horses mouth. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=478921&page=3&pp=25&highlight=link+44s you guys with 16 and 18g's have a bigger turbo and can use 800+cc but on a 39 its a lil extream. i agree with chang, get meth.
how much am i looking to pay for meth..? =/ and modding the stockers is free right( edit sorry i just read the nasioc forms.. seems complicated though)
SMC meth kit costs about $500... it will open up a lot more power (well over 300whp) but u are putting your 4eat at greater risk (not to mention your clutch)
also, though meth adds more power, u should realize you are also adding a pump to the system that could potentially fail... if your meth pump fails at WOT, then you can say bye bye to your lovely ej20... i believe snow has a fail safe for their kit but i dont think SMC has one yet... so far i personally know of only one person who's SMC kit failed
I'm thinking about the same setup right now = vf39, ecutek, and supporting mods. What complications would a meth kit add to a tune? A lot of extra time? Say, an ecutek tune with SS? Also, what (if any) are the dangers to the engine with the meth kit? or are the actual dangers to the engine more from the extra boost the meth kit allows? OK, what I am saying is: I need a newb's guide to meth on a wrx.
we have an alcohol injection thread going: http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4314 i'll try to answer your question in that thread to keep all relevant information in one place
