Im planning on installing swaybars this weekend... anyone wanna help me out? if so, then would saturday or sunday be better? thanks guys
supposed to rain sunday so saturday would be better... im gonna pull off my exhaust and put the old one on for the testin
Milo, If you end up doing it earlier in the day tomorrow I could help. I have done the rear sway on my car, it went pretty quick. Do you need people to bring extra tools?
i could work on it whenever it is convenient for u guys... i dont have my own tools... so if anyone with tools wants to help, i would appreciate it... by the way, what tools do i need?
i was thinking of doing this in my parking deck... theres a lot of space available... i live in buckhead i dont have ramps or tools... but i can definitely get pizza and beer
pizza and beer huh? i do have all the tools needed, and ramps... what time we doin this shiz, i gotta go pick up tires in the afternoon(like 2:30)
im open all day tomorrow... i'd prefer it not to be too early since its a saturday morning but i'll work around u guys convenience... how long would this take? i have whiteline swaybars and kartboy (i think) rear endlinks
noon sounds good to me... have u done this before? i have no idea how to do it right now but i have some instructions off scoobymods
Can you give directions? I can probably bring some ramps and other tools. Anywhere form 85 would be fine...
You'll need: 12mm socket 14mm socket 17mm socket good ratchet w/ extension cheater bar (just in case, the handle of a full size floor jack works well) 5mm allen wrench 14mm wrench 12mm wrench small flat blade screwdriver for clips An electric impact gun is the best $100 you'll ever spend in your life, and turns this from a 2+ hour job into a 45 minute job. Let me know when you guys are doing this, maybe I'll stop by and lend a hand.
I could help but I work till 7pm so I'm assuming you'll be done by then. Feel free to call me if you guys get stuck. I don't think you will, the install was pretty damn easy. The back is very straight forward, nothings in your way...took a second to work the bar around the exhaust. The front is easy as well..1)take off the plastic pieces 2) unbolt the subframe and slide forward and out. 3)Install new bar I suggest you use ramps, instructions I had said to have weight on wheels. You need an allen wrench to tighten the front bolts (I think its a size 8) - this is were I got stuck, I'd never seen that setup b4. Just my opinion, I'd replace the front endlinks if you have the dough. I think the stockers look flimsy as hell. There not too bad(around $65). Porter said the stockers would be fine..but...its up 2 you. As far as other tools, you just need a good socket set. preferably as big as you can get. The rear bolts were tight as hell and we needed to rig up a breaker bar of sorts to get them off. Other than that, your supposed to retighten the bolts after 200 miles or so. Like I said, feel free to call me if you get stuck, I'll have my cell on me at work. -Chris
Hehe, n/p dude... did you get my message BTW? I've got your 3rd cat and midpipe sitting here at the shop.
Sure did Porter, It's gonna be a couple weeks b4 I can afford to slap those in. Due to the delay, the money I had set aside 4 that turned into a trip to Gatlinburg. What's the total on that by the way? Need to now how much I have to save.... Sorry Milo, didn't mean to hijack ur thread....
heres directions: from 75S, *take the northside exit and make a right *second light make a left onto 'deering' *go thru 2 stop signs. u will go over a bridge that goes over the interstate. right after that, make a left onto 'alden' *go thru 2 stop signs and u will end up in the culdesac (spelling?) for my building.... follow the road and go to the guest call box... look up my name... it will be listed as m. borkar... should be #342... i'll let u in... turn left into the parking deck and take the ramp to go up... u will see my car parked somewhere in the deck from 85S, *take the peachtree street exit. this will put u on an access road. *take the peachtree st north/buckhead exit. this will force u to make a right on peachtree *left at the first light on deering *right onto alden (should be 2-3 streets... if u get on the bridge that goes over the interstate, then u've gone too far) *go thru 2 stop signs. u will go over a bridge that goes over the interstate. right after that, make a left onto 'alden' *go thru 2 stop signs and u will end up in the culdesac (spelling?) for my building.... follow the road and go to the guest call box... look up my name... it will be listed as m. borkar... should be #342... i'll let u in... turn left into the parking deck and take the ramp to go up... u will see my car parked somewhere in the deck 400S *turn left on the 'sydney marcus' exit *right at the first light (should put u on anm access road) *take the peachtree st north/buckhead exit. this will force u to make a right on peachtree *left at the first light on deering *right onto alden (should be 2-3 streets... if u get on the bridge that goes over the interstate, then u've gone too far) *go thru 2 stop signs. u will go over a bridge that goes over the interstate. right after that, make a left onto 'alden' *go thru 2 stop signs and u will end up in the culdesac (spelling?) for my building.... follow the road and go to the guest call box... look up my name... it will be listed as m. borkar... should be #342... i'll let u in... turn left into the parking deck and take the ramp to go up... u will see my car parked somewhere in the deck hope these are accurate cuz ive been  ... call me if u get lost... 404-247-2170
Are you still planning on install the bars today? Thought I might drive down in a bit if I can get away. I'm probably 45 minutes away and you might be finished by then though.
the install was kinda disappointing... got the rear swaybar on but the whiteline bushings were too big to fit the mounts... ended up reusing the stock bushings for now... will have to replace the mounts soon.... the front bushings were even bigger than the front so we didn't even try putting the front swaybar on... however i gotta get this done soon because coupled with the 8kg springs im running with the teins, the car is a little tail happy... successfully forced it into a slide on an on ramp and it was real easy to slide it... thanks jason and scott for helping out...
Milo, Sorry we couldn't get everything done today, I know how much that sucks. I have searched all over Nasioc and Scooby Mods and didn't find anyone with the same problem, so, either we just didn't try hard enough, or Whiteline changed something. The old Whiteline bars were blue also, so maybe a change? I did see a kit that inlcuded new brackets from whiteline. It was cool to work on the car though and I'll read up more before I commit to helping next time...
Milo, sorry I forgot to mention...I had a simular issue. The rear bushings were 2 big for me as well. I also reused my stock bushings. They fit perfectly and I haven't had any issues so I'm not going to mess with replacing them. As for the front bushings, the Whitelines fit fine. They did look big, but fit right on. So maybe you should try to slap them on before you go further....
yeah... we didn't even touch the front ones cuz they looked so big since the rear ones were such a bitch to put in... if u say that the front bushings fit nicely, i'll give it a try
its ok.... i really appreciate u guys helping out... if it weren't for u and jason, i probably wouldn't have even got the rear one on... i look at this as a learning experience... need to figure out how to get the front one on soon
I have Whiteline bars. They are now powder coated silver. I had no problem with bushings. Its kinda odd.
Dude, that's really strange. I've put a lot of Whiteline bars on and I've never had a bushing problem. The bars should be all silver, if you got a blue one it's likely an older unit. The rear bushings should fit the brackets perfectly, with a poly lip that fits around the outside of the metal bracket and holds the bushing in place. If you got the wrong bushing with your bar, I can call Whiteline and get the correct one for you. There may have been a mistake when they boxed that particular bar.
Gotcha. Let Lisa know about the incorrect bushing problem and she should be able to get that fixed for free... I could do it as a Whiteline warranty provider but it will be easier from their end since the bar was purchased there.
how much of a difference do the sway bars make? and did you need an alignment after? I'm thinking about some suspension upgrades in the summer. Craig
the swaybars are awesome... car handles beautifully even on crappy tires... u dont need an alignment after the install but i had one done anyway because autocross season is starting
