Just thought some might be interested in this. The stock turbo really is a little work horse, you just have to taper it a bunch at redline. Here is the thread that it came from: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=988825&page=2&highlight=td04+compressor
Thought that it might be helpful for those of us that do our own tuning on here and those that are trying to consider a turbo.
I love my stock turbo. Even though people say it's not worth it I almost want to see just how much I can get out of it.... when I'm rich that is.
Shoot they are not that bad to replace, lol. I can't wait to see what it will do with the 2.5, but I know I will want more. I thought about getting a spare and porting and polishing it myself just to see what kind of gains could be realized.
I think a port and polish is only good for modest gains, like a good front mount IC. What gets me is why TD04's aren't more popular for twin turbo setups.
You know I thought about that too...my thought is that it would only be seeing half the exhaust gas and it might take considerably longer to spool up...but if it was reasonable think 7-800 cfm and now we are talking about the range of the big guys like the 20g maybe? I think the logistics of it would be the most difficult...runnning new oil and water lines, etc.
^^^^ That's true. ^^^^ But I think about how the TT's on a straight six looks, and they're one behind the other. But for our engines they'd probably have to be positioned one per bank. Unless you wanted to position the extra one at the rear of the exhaust.... (end random thoughts)
dont you need 2 smaller intercoolers instead of one big one as well?... think about all the custom piping needed for such a setup.
I would think that you could y the pipes together before the intercooler (front mount for sure) and use just one. The logistics part of the TT setup would be such a huge pain...where to mount them, running oil and water lines, how to run all the piping you would need, etc...but it could be really cool!
