Got to my girlfriends "gated apt complex" last night. Car in front of me went through the gate. The gate stayed up. Waited...waited....looked out the window at the stupid thing it wasn't going down. Figured I was in range of the sensor. The second I went forward the thing comes down on my roof! once, twice, three times! I went balistic. Almost went inside and got out the sledge hammer to fix the gate mechanism.
Checked out the damage this morning. God must have been watching. All I got was three pretty minor dings on the roof support piece right beyond the lip of the door, no paint damage other than minut scratches in the clear coat. The bummer is my ding guy says it is impossible to get these out. The piece is way too thick. If I want perfection I need to go to a body shop. The apt complex may pay but first they will determine if I utilized the gate properly. What do you guys think. Persue with blind determination or be happy that it wasn't worse and lick my wounds?

I think you should be happy that the gate didnt chop your car into two pieces. That's why I hate apt. gates. They're always broken and always suck.

I have to agree with Alex. I always thought, wow, a gated community makes me feel safe. Well most don't do a damn thing except slow up traffic, and then there is always the occasional Milo's Gate Situation where you are ready to leave and go back to your place and the exit gate won't open.

You also pay more for gated communities, because of the "Security" of the gates. Doesn't really matter if there is a gate when it is broken, or when the gate stays open long enough for 3 cars to pass thru. Never Again.

Never too late for the sledge hammer Although they got serious camera's. They have my car getting wacked on camera. Plus at this place if they are trying to keep the "riff raff" out they are defeating the purpose because basically they're letting them move in. I guess section 8 exists in any neighborhood! Ready to get my girlfriend a DA38 Derringer

Wouldn't mind destroying the leasing director who told me in no uncertain terms they are not liable.

LOL... they are liable, it's their equipment and their responsibility to keep it in good repair... what a flaming asshole. if the fix is expensive take em to court. you'll win.

The funny part is, even if you sign something everything you drive through and they have 10000000x signs posted. If there is considerable damage to your car, they're still liable. Isnt America grand ?

Went to the body shop. Estimate $1500. Can only use bondo on the creases since they are in deep metal. Apt complex assumes no liability even though we're in America. I am not going to press it. Lesson learned. If it was worse I would. Even body guy stated wait until you get into a real accident which you will, I am beginning to believe him, based on what I have witnessed on these roads and he will throw it in with the claim. Very cool body shop by the way. Specializes in Porsche's and Rovers. He said Subi's are easy to work on. Easier than a Porsche or a Rover anyway. He said the design is solid and simple "thing of beauty"!

  14. I hated that stupid gate. I was always secretly happy when someone broke the arm..... and I may've been partly responsible for said breakage when the arm slammed down on the roof of my car a week after I moved in there. I was grateful when I got to move out of there.
