http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaiw3Qqx1Rk Just how in the hell did they put that thing together? Not only do they have 4 Kylies :ky: :ky: that have to pass around and near each other throughout the whole thing (wonder how they pulled that off without two Kylies being in the same place at once), but they also managed to sync it up so that one pass around the block perfectly merges into the chorus that started the song... god damn.
I was hoping that one of you guys would know. Googled it a bit earlier and couldn't find much info on just how they shot it.
Probably a combination of chroma-color (blue-screen, green-screen) and body doubles. Towards the end, when the Kylies are the same size and passing close, I see a difference in their image qualities, too. A very fine piece of work that took as much time story boarding as shooting, I'd guess. Wait, waait - Layers for sure. Each pass of Kylie is used in the next. They keep adding to the foreground, breaking up the scene so that you don't realize you're seeing the same thing over and over. For example, Kylie #2 picks up the paper in the same way each pass. She's looking smug towards the end, too. The director's the one who should be looking smug.
I did find something saying no body doubles were used -- if that's true that's all the more impressive. Gondry's videos overall seem to have a certain quality to them; I think he did Bjork's "Bachelorette" video which is amazing too.
Yeah, I can buy that claim. If it's four layers at the end, that would explain the blurring of one versus the other, and it would make for a very attainable plan. The blurring can happen when trying to adjust timing. Kylie #3 out of step with number 2? Tweak the frame rate. Believe none of what you see and half of what you hear.
