On Monday I finished installing the heads on my wrx using the same technique I have in the past. On Tuesday at the meet at Felini's I got to talking to Will about the install. I mentioned the crazy Subaru torque sequence on the heads and he advised me that the sequence I used was for the sohc motors. I sent him the pages from the 02 manual and he sent me the pages from the 03 and 05 WRX manuals. They were very different. Besides the head torque sequence differences, the 02 manual has some incorrect torque values for the cam caps. Following the directions in the manual can lead to broken bolts on the front cam caps. I know because it happened to me on my first swap. I was fortunate that time and a bolt extractor worked. If you are going to do any work on a 2.0l wrx you should use at a minimum the 05 manual. I just finished reinstalling the heads with new gaskets and the new torque sequence/specs. While I never had any issues in the past, with the power I hope to be making it's better safe than sorry.
Yeah, there are tons of typeo's in the 02 FSM that have gone unfixed. The 03 FSM is nearly exactly the same....but with all the technical typeos fixed.
