does anyone have any experience with the thrus angle being off? my car still pulls to the left after an alignment and I cannot afford another one right now, I can adjust the toe on the front and or back wheels if this might fix the problem. any experienced input is appreciated thanks in advance, kevin
Thrust angle is not a "pull" angle, it is a dog tracking type of thing. It is created by the difference of the rear toe angles from the center line of the vehicle. Pull would be from a camber and or caster split, or maybe a radial pull caused by a tire.
Caster I don't believe is adjustable on our cars without a plate. Its hard to get the strut to rotate forwards or backwards when it is seated by bolts at the top and bottom.
i feared as much, could front toe in the same direction have any effect other than the steering wheel being loose? kind of like this \\ ||
Its very possible to have toe out on one wheel and toe in on the other, which would angle the wheels in one direction. It would make you pull in that direction when you let go of the steering wheel. Normally, if the toe in and out are the same magnitude, an alignment shop can adjust the steering wheel so that the wheels are straight, but your steering wheel will be slightly turned.
Toe does not cause pull. it will cause an off center steering wheel though. Also it can give the car the tendency to follow road surfaces(road crown)-i.e. darty. If you just got an alignment did you get a printout ? or will they realign or explain why it pulls???
Toe can cause pull, for example one wheel pointing straight while the other toe out. Your car will pull towards the toe out side. | / car pulls right. \ | car pulls left.
i think this is a possibility, but i took the car back to the shop 3 times where they never put it back on the rack, they just test drove it and told me it was tire drag the first time that they needed to rotate the tires and that would fix it for $25 more dollars, I said no way I would rotate the tires myself and go from there, then the tech said "it follows the road" and the shop manager said the same thing. I feel like raising heck right there in the lobby
Toe out or in on one tire is not pull really, when the car is driven the toe angles will ALWAYS equalize in relation to the thrust angle which causes an off center steering wheel.
