Hey guys and gals, I was wondering what kind of tire pressure you guys would suggest running for auto-x? Ive got 225/45/17 michillen pilot sports. Ive been auto-xing for a semester now and have tried diff pressures with mixed results.. but i was just wondering what you more experienced people run?

    Thanks :D

I don't pay much attention to tire pressures usually. I have always had problems getting the back end to rotate. Last event Milo convinced me to check pressure, and I think we added more pressure in the rear. That day my car handled better than ever, I got the back end to swing around like I wanted and it was very good. Milo can give you a good idea on tire pressures.

When I was at little tally last, I ran 40 hot and had zero complaints.

How do you like the Pilot sports? I've got track wheels waiting on a tire decision.. Worth the money over Victoracers for a rookie? I want to try Hankook's but they are next to impossible to find.
Is this a thread jack? Sorry if so..

I've had good luck with 42F and 38R hot on my Kumho MX's.

I have heard good things about Toyo RA-1s. Good prices here:

Probably the best tire for both track and autocross. It also doesn't heat cycle like the victoracers.

When Mere kills her Victoracers, she is getting V710s, as 275/40-17 fits without issues on the 05 STi if you use Rota 17x8 wheels.

Also, we picked up a laser pyrometer, which will allow for checking tire temps after runs and figuring the optimal tire pressure.

The pilot sports are not bad. ive been pretty happy with them. but then again these tires came on my car when i bought it so i cant comment too much about other brands.

as far as race tires go.. you will have alot more grip with the R-compounds.. but alot of people have told me it is alot better to learn on street tires instead of race tires(Street tires are much more predictable)

Personaly if i were in the market for street tires for auto-x or track(which i will be in the near future) i would not buy something as expensive as the michilens

    hoped this helped :)

Recently, I have been running much higher than normal. My tires have been paying the price. For the front, between 38-40, and for the rear 40-42. The higher tire pressure in the rear will prevent the tire from rolling over and should give more rotation. I am still experimenting though...
