I drove my car after it was sitting all weekend. It drove like there was slow hardening concrete in it from the engine to the axles. Even after about half an hour on 400 going 75. I have roughly 23,000. I was thinking I don't have the 850 for a burn. Maybe I should spend the 120 on a tune up at Top Speed? I realize it's king of early in the life. But it seems like it needs a little freshening up. What do you-all think? Too soon? Are there any cheap mods to get a little life into the stock tuning? Pretty broke from Christmas Thanks
well if she is stock try gutting the uppipe and removing the air silencer. both of those mods are free. i would definately recommend doing the uppipe before you get ecutek. but as far as too early in your cars life its not to early. I started modding right after break in. for a 2002 having only 23K miles thats awesome!
It is never to early to start modding. Just like weapon, I started modding right after break in. I got my EcuTek Reflash when there was about 5000 miles on the car. But like weapon said, a good place to start is with gutting your uppipe. Removing the stock air silencer won't really make a noticable difference power wise, but makes some cool sounds.
Ok guys I admit it I was a Ford guy. These engines are totally new territory to me, although, I love a challenge. I checked the "how to" section of the post and didn't see anything on gutting the up pipe. I am assuming it's pretty easy. Before I start to break yet another perfectly good car is there a forum or a post with the "how to" on gutting the up-pipe is available? Any special tools I should be purchasing upfornt? Thanks Mike

Or you could buy my stock up pipe thats sitting here collecting dust and gut that then just put it on..
yea itll bolt to an 02. Hell make me an offer plus shipping. Cause im in mississippi. I dont even know what to ask for a stock uppipe but id be happy as hell to ship it your way.
Can it bolt on to an 02 & how much? Damm nice car Man! The "how too" is a good one. I printed it up. Could someone let me know essentially what I would be getting into getting to the uppipe? Upper intake? Exhaust? Is it time to get jack stands? I am without many tools right now. Sorry for the duh questions. Better safe though. Anyone know where to get a shop manual for a good price? Thanks!
I sent you an email. The uppie in itself isnt to fun to do but with the right help can go fairly easy i did it by myself and cussed it the whole time. As for service manuals i happen to be your man hahah i got a link to a web site with the Whole 02/03 service maunal just download open in Adobe Acrobat Reader and print. Heres the service manual and my friends say me having no life dont help anyone. haha and to be honest why your doing the uppipe you might as well do the down pipe as well cause you have to take it off just my 2 cents on all that. http://ken-gilbert.com/wrx/impreza_manuals.htm 02 service manual http://www.auto-epc.ru/2004 STI/index.htm 04 sti service manual
Cobb stage one only requires turbo back. But IMO get rid of the uppipe if it ever goes out of the cat breaks up bye bye turbo. Its a pain in the ass to do but in the long run well worth it. just my .02
Hella Big thanks for the manuals! My girlfriend is gonna be pissed. I will be zoning out on those manuals hehehehe!
WRXCoupe, the benefits of gutting your stock up-pipe are substantial. Not only are you retaining what is a factory piece (so you know fitment, etc is NOT a problem, and that the flange will not break unlike other aftermarket up-pipes Ive seen), you are removing a cat. Now, a lot of people argue this causes the car problems (those unfamilar with Subarus in general). When you remove this restriction, you're actually going to be increase your gas mileage (maybe not noticable, but it will increase due to the decrease in resistence) as well as throttle response, spool and fun factor. This hands down is a must do for all stock WRX owners as both the short and long term benefits are always there and do not dissapate over time. It is imperative that once you start the gutting process, you do not do a half-way job. The pipe must have no residue of anything in there. You need to be able to drink for it, that's how clean. Otherwise, if any bit of anything is left, it can easily be disloged and sucked straight into the turbo which can cause many more (expensive) problems. Good luck!
