Anybody know of a good place to get it rebuilt? Also, how hard is it to remove the axle from the tranny and get it back in there properly? It's the front passenger side btw. I've pulled axles on a Honda but never on a Subaru. Any difference?

One thing you don't want to do... is unscrew the ring from the side of the diff... I'm sure Will will chime in soon to help you out. If not, pEd will

depends on the year, we just did a tranny install the other weekend. the car was a 2003 and all that holds the halfshafts to the tranny is a pin on each halfshaft. back to your situation, after the reinstall we noticed a split in one of the boots. jason (jason on the forums) found replacement halfshafts for $65 with a lifetime warranty from autozone. not sure how good they are but who cares with a warranty like that. if you need any help and you happen to have a year with just the pins, jason and I can help you out. And of course ped.

Thanks for the offers guys, but I think I can do it. Also since I have to pull the axle I need to change the tranny fluid. What was that cocktail recipe I was reading about on here with the mixture of two or three different fluids? Or is there one in particular that everyone recommends?

Nevermind on the tranny fluid question. Found it.
