Just thought I would give a little low down on the drive my wife and I took yesterday. We decided to do the "leaf thing" and take a trip from Atlanta to Tellico Plans and across the Cherohala Skyway and then a few runs on the dragon.

If you want an enjoyable drive defintely check it out. The skyway had some amazing views specially with all the fall color. The motorcycle traffice was fairly light on the skyway which made for an enjoyable cruise.

Once we hit Robbinsville NC we headed north on 129 on the dragon and that road is a different story. Imagine the North Ga mountain roads on steriods and then add to that Motorcycle guys who are straight out of the nut house. If your not a big fan of being passed left and right on twisty roads by loud sport bikes than dont even bother on this road. We saw 2 accidents, 1 bike slide into a ditch and the another guy wrapped his bike around a tree. Not sure if the ambulance or helicopter was called for the second one. Very enjoyable ride for a easy drive. If you are not use to twisty roads then avoid this like the plague. There is no room for error what so ever on this road.

Defintely check them out if you get a chance.
Hopefully killboy.com got a few pics of us driving.

Yea man its amazing! I went right after winter so all the leaves were fallen and you could see through the trees better and went early in the mourning like 9 o'clock so really light traffic but yea its incredible.

Yeah I have been up there so much that I don't pay attention to the bikes. You just do your best to stay in your lane and let them remove themselves from the road.

I won't get to go up that way again till the spring NASIOC meet.

Took about 3 hours one way. Probably could have made it quicker, but I didnt want to go to fast with the wife in the car. She gets sick if I boogie around the twisties.

Lots of peeps cycling. to be honest I wouldnt be caught on those roads. Very narrow and lots of crazy ass sport bikes and some cars. I did see a few thou out there. The Skyway may be an interesting cycling trip, but tons and tons of climbing. We would be hurting needles to say. LOL

Hmm...sports bikes + cars + twisty roads != friendly place for cyclists. :) Unless you're just as nuts as they are, I guess. Speaking of climbing, we still need to hit The Gaps! :D

it's about 2 1/2 to 3 hours depending on the type of driver you are and it is worth every bit of it the scenery all the way there once you get out of atlanta is pretty much amazing
