This in concerning Mr. Jiggles: a 1997 Impreza L Wagon with 148k miles

When starting there are a few abnormal grinding noises and sometimes the starter will not go long enough to turn the engine over. I wait and then try again, a little grinding then it starts.

The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like the starter is struggling.

I am sure that the trouble is NOT with the battery, there seems to be plenty of charge.

What should I bee looking for as the culprit of this problem? (starter motor, solenoid, etc..?)

could be the teeth on the flywheel? I had that happen once before and it made grinding noises...Could also be the gears on the starter where it engages with the flywheel being slightly out of alignment with the flywheel.

OK, so what do I look for?

First, where is the starter motor, and second, can I take it off easily to diagnose this problem?

nicad Yes I am a troll

drivers side on the bellhousing of the transmission. could possibly not have enough juice, and the starter isnt engaging fully onto the flywheel.

should be two bolts to remove
