Ok, so after doing a lot of looking into it, I'm going to buy some new springs, sway bars etc.... I decided to got with at least 25/27mm adjustable front and 22/24/26mm adjustable rear. What I can't decide on are the springs that I want. I've spent about 2 months looking into it but I can't come to a decision. Here's what I've narrowed it down to so please give me some suggestions. I can find all of these for 299 or less which is how much I saved up and anticipated spending on springs so I'm ignoring the price. I've put some of the considerations beside them as well: Name: Rate(F/R), Lowering (F/R), considerations, RS*R Ti2000: 268/194, 1.6"/1.4", materials, lifetime warranty, manufacturing process. (As a materials science guy, I actually look at the materials and the processes where available) Eibach Pro-kit: ???/???, 1.8"/1.2", 10 year warranty good reputation across the industry. I don't know the rates though and can't find them anywhere. STi Pinks: 257/217, 1.0"/0,8", pinks that pretty much says it all. These have been suggested but I don't know anything about them: Tanabe GF210: 241/224, -1.2"/-1.0", I don't know much about these but they were suggested by Alex. If you know anything about them please comment. Espelier GT: 280/230, 1.2"/0.8", again suggested but I don't know anything about them. Please comment. It might be heresy, but I don't like Tein springs. 1-year warranty and green.... Just a personal preference. Along with this the rates go from well matched (241/217) to widely spaced (268/194). How does this affect the way the car drives, accelerates, rolls, etc? Thanks for the help in advance!
Right, i know Tein's are good. But it seems like everyone already has them. I kinda want to do somethign different and I want more than a 1-year warranty on the parts, just in case somethign does happen to them....
The pridrive P1 are 215/195. Which isn't so bad on the rates, but I think I want a little stiffer front. They only lower the care by 0.6"/0.4". I'd like a little more aggressive lowering, but that's not crucial. I can't find a warranty on them (if there is one please let me know). Most of what I need is how the difference in front/rear rates will affect the handling of the car. Do I want a wide spacing or close spacing in rates?
I would think you would want a closer gap between the two rates, plus you'll want a linear spring rate as opposed to a progressive spring rate. I know that it says that they only lower that much, but I have them and can say that they lowered my car closer to 1.5" in the front and 0.5" or so in the back after they settled. The other good thing is that the prodrives are meant to be used with the stock struts. Which is good if you plan on keeping them for a while. Although they are not the most agressive in drop, they are perfect for daily driving (especially around ATL). Depending on how close you are maybe we could meet up and you could see my car in person and see how they ride. Here are some before and after pics: Before - Two days after the install, they have since settled even more -
I'm at Tech. My weeks are pretty open after 5ish, and my weekends usually have plenty of time in them. Are you going to be going to the meet Saturday?
No, I work all day on Sat., but I'm off on Mon and Tues. I live about 30 mins. south of you, so if you would like to meet up sometime in the evening just let me know.
Thanks! I should be any night this week if you've got the time. Just PM/email me and let me know. I'm probably looking to buy in two or three weeks when my car gets out of the shop, so there's no rush.
I recommend the pinks, however no first hand experience with them on your car. I do not recommend any rake altering spring however. "When you rake a car forward, you increase the weight on the front wheels. The Impreza is already nose-heavy so why make that worse by adding springs that lower the front more than the back"
