Well, the Static X kit wasn't bad to install. Bit tricky to get the wire under the 'front' of the turbo since there isn't much room (thanks for giving me a hand, pEd), but didn't take long. It's still pretty hot on the outside of the wrap; wish I'd done before/after IR temp readings to see how much it cuts down. Certainly can't HURT though! Going to add the custom heatshield as soon as I get a chance to make a template.
You could still check IR temps just after the wrap to see what the difference is there couldn't you? I'm trying to picture it in my head but without much success. The custom heatshield sounds like fun. What kind of metal are you going to use?
I'm going to just use some sheet metal from home depot for testing it out. Might pick up some heavier gauge stuff later if I like how it turns out. Going to mount it to the passenger side intercooler bolt and see if it's enough; if not I'll have to add another mount point. As for measuring temps, I can't really get a 'clear shot' at the cast iron section since the wrap pretty well covers it, so temp readings wouldn't be all that accurate. For $35 or whatever it was I'm not going to worry too much about it; any little bit helps here!
wow i was just lookin at the wraps from static x, did you notice any difference with the underhood temps? a lot of guys on iw noticed a considerably less amount of heat under the hood. oh and just wondering if your dp is wrapped or not? glad to hear roberts turbo wrap isnt too hard to install
Looks exactly like on the Static X site. STiLLsLow: DP isn't wrapped. I'll probably coat it at some future point. Can't say I noticed a lot of difference, but it's pretty damn hard to tell. I did the wrap right after doing a seal for the Perrin top mount so can't tell which contributed more; the car does pull noticably harder on top end since though.
