So my stock clutch is going south and I would figure I can get another few thousand out of it...i think. I went from 4th to 5th and stepped on it and didn't go any faster, but boy did those revs climb fast! :eek3: I was at topspeed today and Will told me he can get my stock full face spring clutch replaced with a kevlar one, keeping the stock flywheel, for about $180 + bearings. With this config i would not need a new flywheel but I could get a new one or have mine machined for extra. I was looking at the Cobb ACT clutch and exedy organics for 400+ so this sounded too good to be true. Looking on line and from people i know who have used kevlar clutches, there seem to be endless problems trying to street drive a kevlar clutch especially in traffic. Kevlar as i am told loves to soak up heat and in full face form, will become useless in traffic. I have also heard that kevlar, once heated too much from abuse, will never go back to normal as an organic might. Any input on this subject would be very helpfull. If you know how to do the work ( and i don't mean you think you could follow directions) let me know. I'll supply beer, pizza, chipolte, $$. I just don't want to have to blow 350-400 on labor. Thanks
all you need is the service manual for your car and im willing to help, not willing to try unless i have instructions from subaru :wavey:
well it's shuddering more on takeoff then i expected it to at this point. I may have to just let will@topspeed help me out for a shiny penny, the same one i would have almost bought coilovers with. My main thing is about buying a kevlar vs organic clutch disk. I've heard some really bad things about kevlar not gripping well unless really hot.
Competition clutch Competition Clutch (they are in Conyers) They can make you whatever clutch you desire, or they can tell you what clutch you need. They also make a really nice steel flywheel. Ask for Chris he will hook you up Matt
Cool, i'll call them on monday and see what they say. Will and doug at topspeed said kevlar would be fine but i just want to make damn sure. Thanks for the tip
A clutch is not something you would want to replace without a lift and trans. stand for a wrx. I don't even know if it's possible... I've replaced a few clutches, but only on small FWD's. You can replace the clutch by just pulling a wheel, driveshaft. Prop up the engine&trans. Seperate the 2 and shift the trans over some. Swap clutches out and voila'.
