So I scraped the absolute shit out of my passenger side front wheel last night. I took the paint off of a good fifth of the lip. I'm guessing it would have to be sanded or something too to smooth it out before painted. Any places that could make my wheel sexy again that you guys have dealt with (the closer to midtown the better, but willing to do some driving if needed). Also, do you think it would be just a get there, wait a few hours and they'd be done sort of thing? Or would it take a day or two? Also around how much do you think it would cost?

Camera phone pick of the heinousness:

I'm thinking about maybe getting some touch up paint just for a temporary fix. Scraped black wheels just scream ghetto to me. :(

damn dude...that sucks. you can try Metro Wheels in Smyrna. Should take them a day or three for it to get fixed...it will be as good as new!

    pretty competitive pricing....

Of course, there is wheel wizard as well but they are a but pricier.

I appreciate it. I was hoping it would be a little cheaper. They quote cosmetic repair at $159. For $50 more I could buy myself another wheel and save this one for a rainy day. I'll definitely give them a call or shoot them an email and see what they can do.

Haha, I hate spending money on being stupid.

    are your wheels aluminum?

it may have just been this way a few years ago, maybe they've invented something that will do it. but i was told back in '05ish~ that aluminum wheels CANT or SHOULDN'T BE repaired, because they become too soft when bent back into place???!!!

someone correct me if i'm wrong. and then again your wheels might not be aluminum.

Well they aren't bent or cracked, so I don't think anything involving the structural integrity of the wheel would be done. It's just refinishing the lip.

I let my neighbor drive my car a couple of months ago and he smacked a curb pretty good. No structural damage to the wheel, just a whole lot of curb rash.

I repaired the wheel with some Bondo glazing putty and repainted it. It took me a few hours, but now I can't even tell which wheel that got damaged. It cost me around $25 in materials.

Your wheel is in much better shape than mine was.

Hmm, yeah I was pretty much just planning on sanding it down, taping off just the road rashed areas, and taking a flat black rattle can to them. I figured it won't look perfect, but you probably won't be able to tell unless your right on top of them.

Any more info on this bondo glazing putty?

I picked up the Bondo putty at Advance Auto. A big tube was like $6. The nice thing about it is that you don't have to mix it with any type of hardener. The bad thing is that is that it takes longer to dry than the regular body filler.

I used a deck of playing cards to help mask off the tire:

I kept the wheel under a pair of 500w halogen lights whenever I could to speed up the drying process of the bondo, paint and clear coat. It helped a lot and made it look like some type of alien autopsy was taking place in my garage.
