Umbrella insurance pricing

    I know there's one or two insurance people on the boards. Does $180/year sound reasonable for a $1M umbrella policy?

    Umbrella insurance is aptly named in that it sits 'above' all your other insurances. For instance, if your car insurance goes to 250k liability, and somebody sues you and wins for more than that, they can go after your personal assets. That's the point where umbrella insurance kicks in, usually for up to $1 million or more.

    so this covers ALL your policies? like renter's insurance, medical, etc?

    Usually it goes above your home owners and auto insurance.

    so y would i want max coverage on my auto policy if i get the umbrella? i guess it would lower my rates for the umbrella

    Usually companies won't even give you the umbrella insurance unless you jack up auto and home rates.
