hey guys, i finally had time to work on my car today. i did the following 1. pulled the intercooler 2. checked tranny bolts, one was missing under turbo so i put one in it, and one starter bolt was too long so it was not touching the starter, but tight on the threads so i fixed that as well. 3. checked down pipe mounting bracket for looseness 4. checked engine mounts for looseness 5. checked for exhaust leak at downpipe when running /made sure bolts were tight 6. took screwdriver to various engine parts and could not detect any un necessary noise at any position on motor 7. took off driver side timing cover and checked the belt for tension, it was okay and didnt have anything weird looking. it looked to me like the tensioner was in the middle, and i ran out of time. 8. checked oil and tranny fluid, both of which are very clean and clear, not an inkling of metal particles in either, and both levels are perfect 9. looked for anything random loose on engine bay, secured oil pressure sender just in case 10. REPLACED 5 different size head bolts on intercooler/bracket and put new shiny stainless bolts with same size head in. SOOO what do you guys think it could be still? no noise revving in neutral, no noise under full throttle or fully off the throttle, it only does it above 3k at 10-15 in vacuum and moderate throttle. Thanks for the help guys mark
transmission/diff related? Might be a lash issue that only happens under certain load distribution on the teeth. When I had my carpet and center console section out, I noticed a lot of noises and whines that I had never heard before, but are perfectly fine. What kind of noise is it?
it definitely seems like it is coming from the left front of the engine bay. It sounds like a metal on metal tapping, or maybe possibly an exhaust leak at the head (you know how those can sound like a knock). what gets me is that if it were any mechanical failure such as rods, tranny bearings etc it wouldnt matter what throttle position was and it would get louder at higher rpm right? thanks , mark
Did you get an engine stethesope so you could pin point the area of the sound? Could it be coming from your turbo or is it not that far left?
