had some time today, so i popped into a pawn shop andfound myself a set of 6-1/2" Polk Audio speakers for $18 in box and in very good condition (visual)and magnet was very strong and everything says take me home.

Since Ive not done anything to the car for a few weeks so i said i better do something nice for myself.

I had RAAMat BXT on my car already so it was very easy to remove the door cards since i know it like the back of my hand (tools= phillips head screwdriver and a small screwdriver to pry the plastic off)

To my suprise the stock speaker was together with the standoff and the Polk if mounted on the door is flush and need new holes. So i said let me use the stock mount and connectors so i destroyed my stock speakers to get the guts

The sound if playing a mellow tune was not much of an improvement but when the volume goes up the midrange and the bass was significantly better.

The magnet was significantly stronger compared to stock. And I also stole the connector from the stock speaker so no rewiring required. I did have t solder and shrink wrap the connector to the Polk's It took me less than an hour for both front speakers.

Nicely done! I've been thinking about upgrading my front speakers to components for a while. However, with my car just sitting around at college for the next year I can't really justify spending a buncha money on it. Maybe I'll check out a pawn shop as well!

Is it possible to blow the stock speakers by turning up the volume, or will they just sound really crappy. I actually have the upgraded Subaru speakers, though I doubt they are very upgraded.

I think the upgraded Subaru speakers are just 2 extra speakers and the under seat vibrator :keke:

When you blow the stock speakers it may still work but will rattle and echo and sound just plain nasty. I want to upgrade mine but can't at the moment.

in the older days (dont quote me) the cones are of paper and foam rim and that goes quickly due to moisture and heat. So blown maybe that part broke but with todays materials the cone and rim is much more durable then the next thing goes is the coil / magnet. I should have taken a picture of the tiny magnet the stock (supposedly upgraded_ speakers are when compared to an aftermarket speaker. Of course the efficiency plays a roll but your ears will tell you.
