upipe..

check thease out.. whyare they sooo cheap.. would it be a BAD idea getting one of em? need a quick asnwer getting one for install day

Uppipes are very leak-prone so I would recommend getting something tried and true. You would--in my opinion--be far better off with the $60 gutted stock uppipe Alex was trying to sell you than some off-brand monstrosity.

I generally don't worry about paying extra for a brand name, but with uppipes it's very very crucial that they fit well or you'll have a hell of a time fixing leaks left and right.

plus the gutted stocker still has heat sheilding on it, which is useful.

the piping is the same as stock on aftermarket, un the gutted you have a chamber where the cat use to be.

there is no performance difference that i am aware of.

 

If u are gutting the stock one yourself, make sure to get all of the cat out otherwise it will destroy your turbo. There should be a DIY webpage floating around on how to gutt an uppipe. Also someguys posted dyno plots of a aftermarket uppipe versus a stock gutted one on I-club i think (maybe it was clubwrx?). There was almost no difference.

 

I concur with M-Chan. I believe I eithe saw the same post, or I read it in an article. there were tests with multiple up-pipes and the stock gutted one, and the dyno results were all roughly the same in both power gains and spool up time.

Might have been one of the SCC or turbo! project cars?

 

I gutted mine the other day and it was instant power, save yourself some $$ for now and just gut it. I'll prob get a scoobysport later when I have the extra cash to complete my S/S exhaust but for no other reason really.

btw WRX-WRC's sock gutted is for sale for 60 bucks.. is that worth not gutting mine?

 

It takes probably an hour of power tool usage and some effort. You can determine best whether that's worth the sixty bucks or not.

 

I say buy the gutted one. shit after taking your stock uppipe out of your car you will be glad not to have to gut it too.
