well cdma is normally better for rural areas than gsm due to frequency and range (Gsm only transmits 7-8 miles were cdma is typically 11-12 for alltel) i Use to work for alltel in michigan. We always guess this would happen. it was going to be them or sprint since PCS is a cdma network with a proprietary encryption. but they screwed themselves when they bought nextel (well from a financial standpoint) overall the merger is good because alltels evdo capable networks are few and far between meaning aircard customers wont be paying 60 bucks a month for what was the equivalent of portable dialup and get something useful
